The library's Idea Studio partnered with our across-the-way neighbors, ASTOP, to give patrons the opportunity to create denim squares for Denim Day as part of our observance of Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) in April. Denim Day falls on Wednesday, April 29th this year, but it began in the 1990s after a ruling by the Italian Supreme Court to overturn a r**e conviction because the justices felt that since the victim was wearing tight jeans, she must have helped the person who r**ed her remove them, thereby implying consent. Following the reversal, the women in the Italian Parliament came to work wearing jeans in solidarity with the victim.

Stephanie L. worked her magic and created four quilts from the denim squares created by ASTOP folks and Idea Studio patrons. These are hanging in the Teen Space - three of them in windows, and one from the display shelf, which features books about healthy relationships, consent, and the aftermath of an assault for SAAM.

Check the displays and quilts out when you get a chance! If you have questions about consent, healthy relationships, or what to do if you or someone you're close to doesn't feel safe in their relationship, ASTOP can help, and the library has books and resources, too.

We had a great visit from sixth graders at Fondy Christian School last week! They made a special visit to the Fond du Lac Public Library to learn about our history and genealogy resources available in the Seefeld Local History Room. Local History & Genealogy Librarian John S. gave them a special look at items in our collection ranging from historic yearbooks to microfilm to aged books and newspapers. If you would like to learn more about our history resources, stop by our Reference Desk, or check the comments to find out how you can book a special session with a librarian.
