Effective immediately- due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the City of Fontanelle has decided to close the city park to any use of the playground equipment and city restrooms. This will remain in effect until further notice. Open spaces in the park will remain open, but please remember to practice social distancing of at LEAST 6 feet.

The slab will remain open at this time, again social distancing needs to be practiced. We will continue to monitor the slab and if needed we will close the slab if social distancing is not maintained. For fairness to all a group of 5 per each side of the slab at any given time, practicing social distancing is recommended.

This was a difficult decision but we all need to do our part to protect our Fontanelle families from further spread of the coronavirus.

Thank you,
Mary Sturdy-Martin, Mayor
City of Fontanelle

City of Fontanelle,

I want to provide an update on the COVID 19 (Coronavirus) and share our commitment to protecting our employees and citizens during this pandemic.

There has been 1 confirmed case of COVID 19 in Adair County. You may have heard that there were 2 people undergoing testing in Union County- this morning we learned that the tests came back negative. As of last evening, Iowa had 29 cases of COVID 19, we will see more cases and want to ensure that everyone is doing their part to keep this number at a minimum.

Information is rapidly changing as the experts learn more about the virus, how it can be spread and who is most likely to be infected. Our partners at the Adair-Guthrie County Emergency Management Services have created a website specific to COVID 19 information. http://www.adairguthriecounty.covid.org
Please also check the CDC's website for updated information. https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/about/index.html

Symptoms of COVID 19 include: fever, dry cough, sore throat and shortness of breath. IF you are not feeling well, please call your Healthcare Provider before showing up- they will provide directions on the safest way for you to access care.

Take care of those over 60 years of age or with weakened immune systems. Offer to pick up their groceries, medications. Check in on your loves ones and those in our community that may not have a loved one close by. Remember that: those over 60 years of age, those who already have serious medical condition (examples; heart disease, diabetes, lung disease) among others are at the greatest risk to contract the virus and will most likely have a more difficult time recovering. You, yourself or your children may not have any symptoms- that does not mean that you might not be a carrier of the virus. Please do your part to help protect all of our community, keep our "nanas and papas" as safe as possible. Be proactive so that we don't need to be reactive!

The City of Fontanelle is committed to protecting it's employees and citizens during this pandemic. Staff will continue working behind the scenes. Our locked offices/libraries/public areas are reflective of the suggested guidelines provided by the CDC and the IDPH.

The City of Fontanelle appreciates the publics' understanding as we navigate the rapidly changing environment.

Thank you,
Mayor Mary
Fontanelle City Council

Many of you have received a survey form from our city hall in the past few months and have not returned the form. The survey is now more important than ever. The City of Fontanelle is facing an upcoming federal mandate to upgrade our sewer treatment system, which means we will need to apply for grant funding so your sewer rates do not go up too much. The income survey we sent out helps qualify the town for the federal grant we will need. The project cost is not known yet, but we know it will be hundreds of thousands of dollars. The federal grant we could quality to receive is up to $300,000, which will reduce the costs of to our residents by a considerable amount. If you received a survey and have not yet filled it out and sent it back to the city hall, please do so right away. If you think you have received a survey and maybe have thrown it away, please contact city hall so we can get you a new one.
