🚨 911 ADDRESSING SIGNS - THEY CAN SAVE PRECIOUS TIME!

When you call 911, every second matters. Clearly visible 911 addressing signs help fire, EMS, and police quickly locate your home, especially at night, during bad weather, or when responding to an emergency at a property that may be difficult to find.

A properly displayed address can mean the difference between responders finding you quickly and spending valuable time searching for the correct driveway or residence.

The Forbes Road Fire Department offers 911 addressing signs for a fee. These signs are designed to make your address easily visible to emergency responders.

As our kids head back to class, we ask all drivers to please:
🛑 STOP for school buses with flashing red lights
🚸 Slow down in school zones
👀 Watch for children walking to bus stops, especially in the early morning hours

Due to the forecast of severe weather and out of concern for everyone’s safety, this evening’s festival and fireworks have been canceled. There is no rain date.

Thank you for keeping our parish and festival in your prayers. We look forward to coming together tomorrow to honor Our Lady. Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Sunday, followed immediately by a procession. All are welcome.

The PA Department of Environmental Protection has issued a Code RED Air Quality Alert for Westmoreland County and the surrounding region, in effect TODAY, Thursday, July 16, due to smoke from wildfires in Canada and Minnesota.

Code RED means air quality is unhealthy for EVERYONE - not just sensitive groups.

What you should do today:
❌ Avoid outdoor exercise and strenuous activity
🏠 Keep windows and doors closed; run A/C if you have it
👶 Keep children, elderly neighbors, and anyone with asthma, COPD, or heart conditions indoors
🐕 Limit time outside for pets, too

⚠️ FRIDAY, JULY 17 - CONDITIONS EXPECTED TO GET WORSE:
Tomorrow's forecast calls for a Code PURPLE Air Quality Alert - that's VERY UNHEALTHY air, a step above today's Code Red. At this level, everyone may experience serious health effects.

For tomorrow, please plan ahead:
🏠 Stay indoors as much as possible - reschedule outdoor plans, practices, and events
😷 If you must go outside, keep it brief; an N95 or KN95 mask can help filter smoke particles
🚗 Limit driving and other activities that add to air pollution
📞 Check on elderly neighbors and anyone with breathing or heart conditions
👶 Keep kids and pets inside

If you or a family member experience difficulty breathing, chest pain, or other serious symptoms, call 911 immediately.

🇺🇸 Happy Independence Day! 🇺🇸

Today, we celebrate the birth of our nation and the freedoms we are privileged to enjoy every day. This year is especially meaningful as America begins celebrating 250 years of independence! A historic milestone honoring our nation’s past, present, and future.

On behalf of the officers and members of the Forbes Road Volunteer Fire Department, we wish everyone a safe, fun, and memorable Fourth of July with family and friends.

As you celebrate, please remember to do so responsibly, look out for one another, and keep safety a priority throughout the holiday.

Thank you to the residents of Salem Township and our surrounding communities for your continued support of our volunteer firefighters. It is an honor to serve this community.

🎆 Fourth of July Safety Reminder 🇺🇸

As we prepare to celebrate Independence Day with family and friends, the Forbes Road Volunteer Fire Department encourages everyone to make safety a priority.

Before lighting fireworks, remember to:

💥 Use only legal fireworks and follow all manufacturer instructions.
🪣 Keep a bucket of water or a garden hose nearby.
👨‍👩‍👧 Keep children and spectators at a safe distance.
🚫 Never use fireworks while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
🏠 Never ignite fireworks near homes, vehicles, dry grass, or other combustible materials.
🗑️ Soak used fireworks in water before disposing of them.

The safest way to enjoy fireworks is to attend a professional public display whenever possible.

🚒 Our members are always ready to respond when needed, but with a little extra caution, we can all help prevent unnecessary fires and injuries this holiday.

..speaking of dogs - please note that it is Illegal in PA to leave dogs tethered outdoors, unattended, for over 30 minutes when it's over 90°F!

🌞 Extreme Heat Safety Reminder 🌞

With very hot temperatures and high heat indexes expected this week, the Forbes Road Fire Department encourages everyone to take a few extra precautions to stay safe.

💧 Drink plenty of water throughout the day—even if you don’t feel thirsty.
❄️ Stay in air-conditioned areas whenever possible and avoid strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day.
👕 Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing.
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Check on elderly family members, neighbors, and anyone who may be more vulnerable to the heat.
🐾 Don’t forget your pets! Make sure they have plenty of fresh water and shade, and never leave a child or pet in a parked vehicle.

⚠️ Know the signs of heat-related illness: heavy sweating, dizziness, weakness, headache, nausea, confusion, or fainting. If someone is showing signs of heat illness, move them to a cooler location, give water if they’re alert, and seek medical attention if symptoms are severe or don’t improve.
