100 years ago today, the American Legion purchased this building, dedicating it to "the memories and incidents of comradeships in the World War."

Life events have made us put working on the building on hold for a while, but are getting back into it! While we update our website (https://FifthAndFord.com), you can see old content that we had at the following link (https://FifthAndFord.github.io).

Happy Independence Day!

Absolutely no one asked, but we did a quick drive through Ford City to count how many American flags we could see (not counting banners or other patriotic decorations). Just from the avenues, the total was 431 American flags, ranging from 3x5 inches to 10x15 feet! If you drove down the side streets and alleys, I think you could easily double this number! Ford City has a Person:Flag ratio of about 6:1 — not too shabby.

This time last year, we were ringing in the new year together with great people, amazing music, and lots of dancing.

This year... we’re not! However you’re celebrating the end of 2020, we hope you’re in for an awesome year ahead, full of health and happiness. Cheers to you!

Happy Veterans Day to all who served! 🇺🇸

Since our building was once the Ford City American Legion Post 654, we’ve found quite a trove of Ford City history while working on the building. Many of these photos and documents date back to World War One. We’ll preserve and digitize these one day, but for now, here are a few to check out, straight from the Legion Bar.

Social distancing has been a good time to get some solo projects done — cleaning floors, collecting old trim to match what’s currently in the building, etc.

We came across this signature inside the piano in the 3rd floor ballroom to celebrate the end of WWII in Europe. Germany surrendered on May 7, 1945, and there were celebrations all over America in the days that followed. There might have been a dance in town in the ballroom to celebrate, where J. Ortmann signed the piano.
