Drive Sober Get Pulled Over

Let’s Work Together to End Drunk Driving!
Fordyce, AR- From August 19 through September 7, 2026, the U.S. Department ofTransportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration will be working alongsidelocal law enforcement to deter drunk driving and prevent tragedies during the Labor Dayholiday weekend. The message is clear: Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.During the 2024 Labor Day holiday (6 pm August 30 - 5:59 am September 3), there were505 traffic crash fatalities nationwide. Of these 505 fatalities, 34% (170) involved a drunkdriver. Seventy-seven percent of the impaired drivers killed had a blood alcohol concentration(BAC) of .15 or higher. Among drivers between the ages of 18 and 34 who were killed incrashes over the Labor Day holiday in 2024, 40% of those drivers were drunk, with BACs of .08or higher.“We want our community members to understand that it’s our first priority to keep peoplesafe, so we’re asking everyone to plan ahead if they know they’ll be out drinking,” saidSergeant Ryan Johnson. “The Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign is anawareness effort to get the message out that drunk driving is illegal and it kills. Let’s makethis a partnership between law enforcement and drivers: Help us protect the community andput an end to this dangerous behavior.”If a driver intends to drink during a Labor Day festivity, he or she should plan ahead for a saferide home by securing a designated driver or calling a taxi or ride-share. They shouldn’t waituntil after drinking to plan how to get somewhere. Impairment clouds a person’s judgmentand endangers others on the road.If a driver finds they are unable to drive, they should give their keys to a sober driver so thatperson can get them home safely. When a friend has been drinking and is considering driving,friends should be proactive — take away the keys and help them get a sober ride home. Burn ban still in effect

🔥 BURN BAN REMAINS IN EFFECT 🔥
The burn ban remains in effect for Dallas County and the City of Fordyce.
While our area did receive some much-needed rainfall, the amount of rain was not sufficient to safely lift the burn ban. Dry conditions and the risk of fires remain a concern.
🚫 Please do not conduct any outdoor burning or have open flames while the burn ban is in effect.
We ask everyone to continue using caution and help prevent unnecessary fires. The public will be notified when conditions improve enough for the burn ban to be officially lifted.

SMOKE IN THE AREA

Residents may notice smoke and a strong smell of smoke throughout Fordyce and Dallas County this evening.
A large forest fire, reported to be approximately 2,300 acres, is currently burning in Union County and 80% contained at this time. Winds from the south may carry smoke northward into our area.
There have been several fires reported throughout Dallas County over the past week; however, at this time, we are not aware of any active fires currently burning in our immediate area.
🔥 Dallas County remains under a BURN BAN.Please DO NOT conduct any outdoor burning or have open flames outdoors. Dry conditions combined with wind can allow a fire to spread very quickly.
If you observe an active fire or believe there is an immediate emergency, call 911.
Please use caution and help us prevent additional fires.

Just a reminder that Dallas County is still currently under a burn ban. Please continue to refrain from all outdoor burning until the burn ban has been officially lifted.

Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over high visibility enforcement campaign

During the 2024 Labor Day holiday (6 p.m. September 1 - 5:59 a.m. September 5), there were 505 crash fatalities nationwide. Of those people, 170 (34%) were killed in crashes that involved at least one alcohol-impaired driver with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .08 or above.
Over the 2023 Labor Day holiday, 505 drivers were killed in traffic crashes.
100 (33%) drivers were alcohol-impaired with a BAC .08 or above.
Seventy-seven (77%) of the 100 impaired drivers killed were almost twice the legal limit (BAC .15+).
Among drivers between the ages of 18 and 34 who were killed in crashes over the Labor Day holiday in 2024, 40% of those drivers were drunk, with BACs of .08 or above.
Drivers will see more law enforcement from the Fordyce Police Department and Dallas County Sheriff Office on the road from August 21 – September 7, 2026 as part of theDrive Sober or Get Pulled Over high visibility enforcement campaign.

📲 CITY OF FORDYCE MOBILE APP

Along with the new website, the City of Fordyce now has a mobile app that provides another convenient way for residents to receive City news, emergency information, road closures, weather updates, and other important notifications directly on their phones.

🚨 IPAWS EMERGENCY ALERT SYSTEM

The City of Fordyce has also signed up to utilize FEMA’s Integrated Public Alert and Warning System (IPAWS), further strengthening our ability to communicate critical emergency information to the public.

IPAWS allows authorized public safety officials to distribute emergency alerts through systems such as Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA), which can deliver critical warnings directly to compatible cell phones in an affected geographic area, as well as the Emergency Alert System (EAS).

📢 There is NO sign-up required to receive IPAWS Wireless Emergency Alerts. Unlike notifications from the City of Fordyce app, residents do not need to create an account, download an app, provide a phone number, or subscribe to receive a WEA. When an authorized IPAWS alert is issued for an affected area, compatible wireless devices in that area may automatically receive the emergency message.

IPAWS may be used for serious emergencies such as tornadoes, severe weather, life-safety emergencies, and other significant threats to the community.

The new website, mobile app, and IPAWS capabilities are all part of the City’s continued effort to improve communication, enhance public safety, and keep the citizens of Fordyce informed when it matters most.
