Each day of National EMS Week 2026 has a theme, a today’s theme is EMS and children. FCAS had the wonderful opportunity to go visit the kindergarten class and read them a book about EMS and then the next day the kindergartners came to visit us at the ambulance garage. We got to show off our ambulances, talk about the equipment we use while on a call and answered lots of questions! We talked through when you should call 911 and what questions the dispatchers would ask. We coordinated with our friends at the Public Safety Center to have each group practice calling 911 so they knew what to expect if they ever needed to call for help. We love being able to help educate people so that scary situations might be a little less scary. Huge thanks to Mrs. Schmidt for helping to coordinate and to Mrs. Leitch, Hunt, Schmidt, and McQuown and all their helpers for letting us come into your classrooms and bring all the students to the ambulance garage.

Let us grill lunch for you on Wednesday!

Stop by the Forest City Hyvee from 11a-2p on Wednesday April 29th to chat with some of our ambulance members and get lunch at the same time. We’ll be grilling up burgers and have sides and drink to go with it.

All the money raised will go towards the purchase of a new remounted ambulance. Did you know a remounted ambulance costs around $250,000 while a brand new ambulance can cost upwards of $330,000. As our ambulances age, we are working towards remounting them or replacing them as needed and our oldest ambulances are needing to be replaced over the next several years.

We love having the SIM Iowa truck come to help us continue to learn and grow as providers. They provide top notch learning opportunities and resources. We are very lucky to have such an awesome resource available to us and can’t wait to see them again!

Have you thought about joining the Forest City Ambulance Service, but aren’t too keen on the medical aspect? Do you like working with children? Then we have the perfect job for you, a Station Nanny!

FCAS is looking to hire a handful of people to watch member’s kids during meetings, trainings, and other events throughout the year. There is also opportunity to be “on-call” if a volunteer needs help with childcare so they are still able to work their shift and not have to worry about what to do with their kids if they get paged out.

Requirements:
-at least 18 years old
OR
-at least 14 years old and have taken the babysitting course through the ISU Extension Office
-CPR certified, or willing to become CPR certified (FCAS covers the cost)
-have availability on the 1st, 2nd, and/or 4th Tuesdays of every month
-pass a background check

From November 3–7, all Hy-Vee locations with hot food service will provide a free kids meal for children ages 12 and under from 4–7 p.m. each evening. The same meal will be available to all other guests for $3, offered for both dine-in and carryout.
