The Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office and Special Olympics North Carolina invited the Forest City Police Department to participate in this year’s Torch Run, and we were honored to be a part of it. Events like this are a great reminder of what can be accomplished when law enforcement and the community come together for a meaningful cause. We appreciate the partnership, hospitality, and support shown throughout the event, and we are proud to stand alongside everyone involved in supporting Special Olympics athletes across North Carolina.

Please be aware that the Leader of the Pack 5K will take place in downtown Forest City on Saturday, May 2nd, beginning at 8:00 a.m.
Pre-race packet pickup will be held from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m., so citizens may notice increased vehicle and pedestrian traffic earlier in the morning.

Drivers are asked to use extra caution, watch for runners and pedestrians, and allow extra travel time when driving through the downtown area. We appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation as we work to keep participants, spectators, and motorists safe.

The Forest City Police Department is proud to announce that our Lethality Assessment Program, also known as LAP, will officially go into effect on May 1st.

LAP is a domestic violence assessment tool used by law enforcement to help identify victims who may be at a higher risk of serious injury or death during domestic violence calls. The program is designed to help connect victims with services, safety planning, and support as quickly as possible.

The goal of this program is simple but very important: to help reduce domestic violence homicides, improve victim safety, and make sure victims are connected with timely, potentially life-saving resources.

We are thankful for our community partners who have helped bring this program to Forest City and look forward to using it as another tool to better serve and protect victims of domestic violence.
