Forest City Iowa Police Department

Forest City Iowa Police Department The page was designed to provide information to our citizens. The police department was established when the city was founded in 1878.

Prior to the 1970s the Police Department was housed in the basement of the city hall building. This building, which is still City Hall today, included a city jail and offices. In the 1970's Iowa began establishing centralized police and communications centers. As part of this development, in 1976 the Forest City Police Department, the Winnebago County Sheriff's Office, and the Winnebago County Com

munications Office moved into the "old Forest City Hospital". This building, located at 216 South Clark Street in Forest City, also housed the County Jail. These cooperative, combined locations were, and still are, called LECs (Law Enforcement Center). In 1994 the Police Department moved from the LEC to the empty Robertelle Center building located at 525 North 4th Street. The County Disaster Office, now called the Emergency Management Office, moved into the LEC building. The Robertelle Center was remodeled by the city and included offices upstairs and a training room downstairs. The donation of a Forest City citizen allowed the police department to build a police garage behind the new police station. The Department is currently lead by Chief Douglas Jenson, a veteran officer with more than 20 years experience in Iowa Law Enforcement. Today the Forest City Police Department includes eight full time officers and two part time civilian employees. The police department also includes a squad of active police reserves. Business office hours for the police department are 8:00am - 4:00pm, Monday through Friday (except holidays).

All cars should be moved off the streets tonight. The City of Forest City, IA has issued a snow event. Another reminder to residents: it is also your responsibility to remove the snow off of the sidewalks in front of your property. 136.03 REMOVAL OF SNOW, ICE AND ACCUMULATIONS.
It is the responsibility of the abutting property owners to remove snow, ice and accumulations promptly from sidewalks. If a property owner does not remove snow, ice or accumulations within 24 hours, the City may do so and assess the costs against the property owner for collection in the same manner as a property tax.

69.13 SNOW REMOVAL.
No person shall park, abandon or leave unattended any vehicle on any public street, alley, or City-owned off-street parking area except where permitted overnight parking is allowed, and vehicle displays a current overnight parking permit when the snow is falling and for a period of forty-eight (48) hours after cessation of a snowfall unless the snow has been removed or plowed from said street, alley or parking area.

The City does not need to declare a "Snow Event" for vehicles to be prohibited to park on city streets while it is snowing. The Police Department issues snow tickets when the plows are out and have to go around your vehicle. The "Snow Events" are for the permitted City Parking Lots up town.

If you do not want a snow ticket or the chance of your vehicle getting towed, do not park on the street tonight. If your vehicle has a permit sticker for an overnight parking lot, make sure you are out before 7 am so the plow trucks can move snow or salt the lot. Thank you.
