🚨 Attention Rutherford County Residents! 🚨

Due to the ongoing dry weather conditions, decreased humidity & windy conditions, the risk of brush fires is significantly higher at this time. With these dangerous conditions, any spark or open flame can quickly escalate into a wildfire, putting lives and property at risk.

🔥 Please do NOT burn outdoors 🔥
Even small, seemingly controlled fires can spread rapidly in these conditions. We urge all residents to avoid burning leaves, debris, or any other materials outdoors.

👉 What you can do to help:

-Avoid outdoor burning of any kind – this includes fire pits, trash burning, and yard debris.

-Dispose of cigarette butts properly – do not discard them in dry grass or vegetation.

-Report any suspicious activity – if you see something, say something. Call emergency services immediately if you notice smoke or a potential fire.

The annual meeting of the Sandy Mush Fire Department will be held Feb. 9th, 2025 at 2:00pm. The meeting will be held at our main station located at 557 US Hwy 221a, Forest City NC. Public is invited to attend.

The fire service in Rutherford County suffered a big loss yesterday. Mickey has spent countless hours training us here at Sandy Mush Fire Department over many years. He has instilled an immeasurable amount of knowledge both personally and professionally in every member who had the pleasure to know him. Please keep his family and members of Cliffside Area Fire & Rescue in your prayers. Mickey leaves behind a lasting legacy of hard work and friendship. He will be truly missed.
