Throwback Thursday!

50 years ago this week, here and around the Grove, the “Gale Winds” from Joseph Gale elementary showed off their new t-shirts; Nancy Bond’s class at Harvey Clarke presented retiring Principal W.B. Cammann with a Bicentennial quilt; Dilley School received a new sign; Forest Grove City officials took a trip to the Trojan Nuclear plant; Two Banks star athletes won medals at the Oregon Junior Olympics; Liz and L. T. Schaefer, and their home-based stained glass business, was highlighted; and “Fiddler on the Roof” was in its second week at the Theatre in the Grove, to rave reviews! All this and much more awaits the curious time traveler! Let us know what you remember about these folks and the places they inhabit here. Enjoy!

This Wednesday, June 10th, is the next monthly History Pub talk at the Grand Lodge and it looks like a good one! This is always sponsored by McMenamins and Friends of Historic Forest Grove and the admission is always just $5.

"America the Beautiful" may be America's most beloved song. But few know about the fascinating life of the writer behind it.

This film explores the rich life of poet, professor and social reformer Katharine Lee Bates, author of "America the Beautiful." As we approach the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, Bates' story reminds us of the beauty and ideals of our nation as well as its shortcomings and honors the unbroken chain of Americans striving to live up to those ideals.

The garden tours yesterday were quite successful and we are so grateful to all the volunteers that made this happen. There were many folks who had not visited the Alvin T Smith House before, so that is always nice!

We will have another garden open on the 28th of June, so stay tuned for details or go to www.fhfg.org and look under the Events tab.
