Want to be uplifted today? It's the six month anniversary of the premiere of our 12-minute video showing three of our partner families here in Western Washington County sharing their stories of how homeownership transformed their lives and those of their children. Have a look at what YOUR support helps West Tuality Habitat to be able to do right here in our community. We hope you will "like" it on YouTube and share this with others! https://youtu.be/jss2YLHOxjI?si=HGPkIoBIcGbMpK7X

The housing affordability crisis isn’t just crushing millennials—it’s squeezing out buyers in their 40s, 50s, and beyond too. Contrary to legend, it’s not mostly the young who are getting excluded from landing a yard and three bedrooms: it’s families at all ages. And as this article points out, it's the huge divergence between median home prices and household incomes that has stymied would-be buyers. And as the pool of first-time buyers gets smaller across the board, families on the margins get excluded across the board: it’s those income-stressed households that have suffered most of the drop in homeownership. Habitat for Humanity does more than build homes and help local families access homeownership: we also engage in activities to help address the systemic reasons for the lack of affordable housing.

“When purchasing power declines, fewer people buy homes at 28—but also fewer purchase at 38 or 48,” writes Housing Center codirector Ed Pinto.
