Harford County Amateur Radio ARES • RACES We are a group of volunteer Amateur Radio operators who provide emergency, backup and supplemental communication services to the citizens of Harford County

We are a group of amateur radio operators who have volunteered to provide emergency, backup, and supplemental communication services to the citizens of Harford County. We operate under both ARES and RACES: ARES is a non-profit organization affiliated with the Amateur Radio Relay League (ARRL). ARES can provide emergency communications support and public service communications to nonprofit organizations outside the emergency services field. For example, Harford County ARES has, for a number of years, provided communications support to the March of Dimes Walk for Babies in Forest Hill. RACES operates under the direction of the Harford County Dept. of Emergency Services (DES). RACES is a governmental function and, once activated, RACES members become temporary unpaid Harford County employees for the duration of their activation period. RACES can only be activated by the Harford County Emergency Manager or his/her designate.

Mission: Public service through Amateur Radio communications, serving the citizens of Harford County, Maryland and surrounding communities.

REMINDER:
The 2017 Maryland-DC QSO Party, to run
Saturday, August 12 (noon-midnight) and
Sunday, August 13 (noon-8pm)

AARC will again be hosting the Maryland QSO, running stations thru the entire event from our air-conditioned clubhouse. OPERATORS ARE NEEDED to work the stations at the clubhouse. If you enjoyed making contacts on Field Day, come join us again on August 12 & 13. Since we are sure to be 'spotted', and since we are the one station giving out bonus points, we will be very popular. If you wish to volunteer, please contact Mark [email protected] to get on the schedule! We are hoping to be able to make contact with all 23 Maryland counties + Baltimore this year -- with an emphasis on the 'rare' counties that traditionally have low or no contacts. For mobile operators, this is a unique opportunity to get extra points by transmitting from those rare counties!

Hi! I am new to HAM Radios and would like to know if there is anyone that would be willing to help me set mine up. I bought a Baofeng 5 hand held. When I got it I downloaded and installed the CHIRP program. The problem- says no radio. The radio came as a complete package including the computer cable. I tried following the programming guide for Dummies but can not get it to clone. Any help in this matter would be appreciated! A Big THANK YOU ahead of time.
