We as a union and a village are at a complete loss for words with everything that has happened this last week. Its with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Forest Park Police officer Jose “Pepe” Flores. Pepe was not only the biggest person in real life but also bad the biggest heart. I never saw him without a smile on his face and he was always joking around with us. The streets were always safer when he was working. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends, the members of the forest park police department and the rest of the village. We’ll miss you brother. Keep watching our 6 and I hope Nick mets you with a drink when you get up there. #local2753cares #local2753strong #thinblueline #onefamily

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the Naperville Fire Department reports the off duty passing of one of our own. Firefighter Paramedic Alexander Gard was a two-year member of the Naperville Fire Department, served the residents of Naperville out of our Fire Station 2, and was respected by all.

Firefighter Paramedic Gard was a member of our department’s union, Local 4302. Please keep the Gard Family, City of Naperville community and Naperville Fire Department in your thoughts, as we mourn the loss of an outstanding firefighter and loved member. Arrangements will be forthcoming.

Get well wishes going out to Cicero FIrefighter Ted Polashek who was injured fighting a fire in Cicero Saturday:

Cicero Firefighter hospitalized in serious condition while battling home fire

A Cicero firefighter was hospitalized suffering from what is being described as a serious case of smoke inhalation while fighting a fire at a two-story home in the Town of Cicero Saturday afternoon.

The home fire at 2112 61st Court was called in at 3:45 PM and caused serious damage to the property. It was quickly extinguished and no members of the family living in the home were injured.

But Cicero officials said that Firefighter Ted Polashek, 44, was seriously injured when he inhaled heated smoke. He was taken to MacNeal Hospital and later transferred to Lutheran General Hospital Saturday night where he was being intubated.

“Every day, firefighters risk their lives to protect families in the Town of Cicero and around the country and our prayers are with Ted Polashek and his family for a full recovery,” Town President Larry Dominick said Sunday.

Cicero Fire Chief Dominick Buscemi said Polashek has been a fire fighter for more than two decades and the Department is hopeful that he will come through his injuries.

“There is always a risk but that risk that we face never stops our firefighters from taking on the fires and saving lives,” Buscemi said.

“He is a great firefighter and we know he is strong.”

Polashek, a 20-plus year veteran firefighter, was working on ventilating the roof during the home fire when he was overcome by the smoke and super-heated gases.

A sad day in the history of the Forest Park Fire Department On March 28 1969 Captain Frank Schnurstien was operating at a fire at the southeast corner Circle and Madison. Ladders were raised to the third floor to rescue victims, Nearing the top of the ladder he was stricken with a heart attack and fell three stores to his death
The Red Shift did a great job last night at our fire. Thanks Guys.
