There is so much exciting learning happening at Betsy Ross this week! Ms. Edwards' second grade students read about the awesome architect Zaha Hadid. Ms. Hadid designed very interesting buildings with flowing lines that are inspired by nature. The students then created three dimensional structures of their own out of construction paper.

Our Instructional Assistants go above and beyond the call of duty every single day, and keep our children learning and thriving. We cannot thank them enough. They work directly with students to provide interventions and supports, help organize classrooms and prepare for lessons, monitor lunches, and jump in anywhere they may be needed on a moment's notice. They are the unsung heroes of our school community and we appreciate them everyday!

April is National Poetry Month! Poems are a fun way to practice rhyming, new vocabulary, and word play with young children while you're reading aloud. Speaking of reading aloud to children in early childhood, it is one of the biggest predictors of reading success once they are school age. Plus, listening to poems and stories is just good fun! We hope you have some fun with poetry at home this month!

Almost time for Break!
Look at these lucky learners!🍀
First grade is having fun building words with -aw!
Happy Pi Day! While our students are still learning whole numbers, our staff is happy to celebrate!
The third annual International SEL Day is today, March 11, 2022! SEL Day is an opportunity to collectively spread the word about the importance and impact of social emotional learning.

At Betsy Ross, we value everyday. Whether it's as part of our Second Step SEL curriculum, embedded in Language Arts when reading and discussing what you can do when you feel blue, working cooperatively to help organize materials, identifying feelings as part of the morning meeting routine, playing kindly with friends, or even learning when and how to move our bodies in space, social emotional learning one of the biggest, most important works of childhood and needs to be honored.

Primary age students need SEL all day, everyday, and today, we celebrate it!
Here's to strong women: may we know them, may we be them, may we raise them!
It's School Social Workers Week! School Social Workers serve as a resource to the principal and other educators. Working closely with individual students and their families, School Social Workers create a bridge between the school and the community when linking services.-- School Social Work Association of America
Shout out and thanks to Mrs. Coco this week! Our School Social Workers have been more important than ever since March of 2020, and we're grateful to have a Social Worker in each Forest Park school supporting our students and staff.
Today is Read Across America Day! All of our classes participated in fun reading activities, from making Cat in the Hat hats with new buddies to exploring diverse authors to special flashlight books that reveal hidden illustration details. What a fun way to learn!
It's Rare Disease Awareness Day and we're celebrating all the strong, brave "unicorns" out there thriving and teaching us everyday!
A huge congratulations to our second grade School Citizen of the Year, Keegan! Keegan has demonstrated respect, responsibility, and leadership as a student during his time at Betsy Ross. SCOTY awared winners will be honored at a luncheon in March. Congrats, Keegan!
Making words on a fun Friday!
