ent. Forest Park School District 91 has five schools in the district, two primary elementary schools, an intermediate elementary school and one middle school:

How long have you served on the BOE? I am in the third year of my first term.
How did you choose Forest Park to be your home?
My wife and I chose Forest Park in 2006 because it was a nice, diverse (in every possible way) town close to Chicago, and it was important to us to raise our kids around people from all backgrounds.
When I have 1 hour to myself, I love to .....
Clean the kitchen. Seriously.
What show/movie can you watch over and over and over again? “Chefs Table” on Netflix.
Happy Lunar New Year, an important holiday in several Asian cultures. After the first new moon of the Lunar calendar each year, communities around the world gather with loved ones to usher in the new year. This year marks the Year of the Rabbit, which is associated with peace and prosperity.

How long have you been serving on the board? 4 years
How did you choose Forest Park to be your home?
I had a best friend in elementary and high school who lived at 520 Desplaines. I spent pretty much all my free time in Forest Park from 7th grade on. I knew at that time this is where I would make Forest Park my forever home.
What is the best thing you read in 2022?
My son's letter from Triton showing he was awarded an honors scholarship.
What actor/actress would play you in a movie about your life? Why?
Billy Porter. Have you seen that man's wardrobe? I doubt he would be interested in playing a woman but he has lived an interesting life. I would be honored if he even knew I existed. In reality, I would probably be played by my youngest daughter. Cause sis has all the sass I had to work up to as an adult and now as a teen.

How did you choose Forest Park to be your home?
My husband grew up in Oak Park. His brother rented a little house in Forest Park and bought his own. We decided to move from the city and rented a little house. I am supported by my husband, two daughters, friends, and family.

Amazing MLK Day of Service event! Our D91 leaders and students participated in putting together 90 cold-weather kits for our community members in need. This is what living the legacy of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr looks like. Thank you Forest Park Public Library for coordinating this for our community.
Next Monday is Martin Luther King Jr Day. It is the only federal holiday that is designated by Congress as a National Day of Service - "a day on, not a day off.” We do not have school on January 16th in observance of the holiday. Consider taking this day to give back and encourage others in various ways we and others can volunteer and give back to our community.

Kwanzaa is a week-long holiday held annually from December 26 to January 1. It celebrates family, culture, community, and the harvest. Kwanzaa focuses on seven essential principles, known as the Nguzo Saba, which are each represented by one day of the seven-day celebration. These principles are unity (umoja), self-determination (kujichagulia), collective work and responsibility (ujima), cooperative economics (ujamaa), purpose (nia), creativity (kuumba), and faith (imani). Kwanzaa is not a religious holiday, and families who celebrate Kwanzaa often celebrate it in addition to other holidays in this season. We wish you a Joyous Kwanzaa.
Christmas, is both a religious holiday and a worldwide cultural and commercial phenomenon. People around the world have been observing it with traditions and practices that are both religious and secular in nature. Christians celebrate as the anniversary of the birth of Jesus, a spiritual leader whose teachings form the basis of their religion. Popular customs include exchanging gifts, decorating Christmas trees, attending church, sharing meals with family and friends and, of course, waiting for Santa Claus to arrive. D91 wishes you a Merry Christmas!

Hanukkah, also known as Chanukah and the "Festival of Lights," begins tonight at sundown and ends on the 26th. This 8-day festival is a Jewish holiday that celebrates the triumph of light over darkness and of spirituality over materiality. From lighting a candle on the menorah every night to traditional foods and dreidel games, this festival is rich with history. Let the light shine bright!
The Village of Forest Park will hold a Menorah lighting ceremony on Sunday, December 18th at 4 pm. The ceremony will take place at Constitution Court (Madison Street and Thomas Ave).
All are welcome to Join Mayor Hoskins and the Village of Forest Park in the celebration of Chanukah, the first day of Hanukkah, and the Festival of Lights.
For many, the holidays are full of joy and wonder but, for others, the holidays and the cold winter days that follow can be the hardest. Safe2Help Illinois "offers students a safe, confidential way in which to share information that might help prevent suicides, bullying, school violence or other threats to school safety. This program is not intended to suspend, expel, or punish students. Rather, the goal is to get students to 'Seek Help Before Harm.'”

Class is in session tomorrow, Veterans Day. We will be having various activities at our different schools to express our gratitude to our Veteran community members. At D91 we honor all who have served.
As a reminder we will not have school next week Tuesday. We do have classes on Monday and we hope to see everyone bright and early! Have a good weekend and remember to make a plan to vote!
November is Native American Heritage Month. During this month we celebrate Indigenous people and rededicate ourselves to honoring Tribal sovereignty, promoting Tribal self-determination, and upholding the United States’ solemn trust and treaty responsibilities to Tribal Nations.

Indigenous Peoples Day is to celebrate and honor Native American people and their culture. Indigenous People’s day was previously known as Columbus Day, however we now understand and recognized how this was eraser of the history that already existed. To this day, there are only 14 states that acknowledge Indigenous People’s Day, and Illinois is one of them. It is a day off as we take time for reflection on tribal roots and native land.
