Happy Juneteenth! The Library is open today from 9 am until 6 pm.

Juneteenth (June 19, 1865) is when enslaved African Americans of Galveston, Texas learned they were free. The news erupted into a history-making celebration known as “Juneteenth.” The formerly enslaved African Americans rejoiced and declared that day “Freedom Day,” “Emancipation Day,” or Juneteenth (“June” plus “nineteenth”).

It had been nearly two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation that enslaved Texans learned that they were in fact free. That hopeful day in June marked the end of slavery and the beginning of freedom.

Join the Library for After-Hours (Interactive!) Jurassic Park Movie Night on Saturday, June 27 at 6 pm.

Experience the thrill and fun of the original Jurassic Park movie! This interactive experience will feature props, prompts, sound effects and more.

This movie is rated PG-13 for intense scenes so is not recommended for younger children. Kids must be accompanied by an adult to participate.

Exciting news! We are teaming up with the Park District for a very special storytime on Tuesday, June 30.

Come to the pool at the park district for a mermaid-led storytime! Wear your suits if you want to stay and swim. You must register to be able to attend. Please let us know if you register and change your plans, because space is limited.

Make sure to bring your pool pass if you have one. If you do not have a Forest Park pool pass, contact us at [email protected] and we will ensure you can attend. If you do not connect with us before the day of the event though, we cannot guarantee entry.

Participants should plan to arrive 15 minutes early so we can make sure everyone is scanned in and situated for the start of storytime.

This summer, the Park District of Forest Park and the Forest Park Public Library will be teaming up for an outdoor yoga series.

🧘‍♀️ Wednesday, July 22 at 7 pm
🧘‍♀️ Wednesday, August 12 at 7 pm

Marissa from And Then There Was Well will lead a gentle yoga class on the lawn of Rieger Park (1526 Circle Ave). All experience welcome.

Please wear comfortable clothes you can move in and bring a yoga mat or towel to lay on. Don't forget water and sunscreen!

The Park District of Forest Park and the Forest Park Public Library have partnered on a new service this summer.

FPPL cardholders 18+ can check out a pool pass from the Library!

🔵 Every Tuesday, six pool passes will be available for check out. (2 are reserved for seniors 60+).
🔵 To check out, you must be 18+ with a valid Forest Park Public Library card.
🔵 Two pool passes can be checked out at once (if available).
🔵 Check outs can only be done in-person at the Library. First come, first served. Holds cannot be placed on passes.
🔵 Once a pass is checked out, you must create a Amilia account and sign a waiver to enter the pool.
