Two Forest View police officers were honored at last month's village board meeting for standout work in the field. Officer Jonathan Rodriguez pulled a driver from a burning car seconds before it was fully engulfed in flames — the driver survived. Officer Antonio Whitfield stopped a stolen vehicle, chased down the driver on foot, and made an arrest. Both officers were recognized in front of fellow officers, board members, and residents. 👏

Forest View Police Department Speed Awareness Day Campaign

The Forest View Police Department is partnering with the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police (ILACP) with the support of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), and more than 300 state, county and local law enforcement agencies for this year’s ILACP “Illinois Speed Awareness Day” on July 22, 2026. Law enforcement agencies across the state will be stepping up traffic safety efforts to reduce speeding. Motorists can expect to see increased patrols looking for speeding, as well as other traffic violations.

This campaign is an effort to address the drastic increase in speed-related crashes and moving violations. According to the Illinois Department of Transportation, speeding is involved in 44.9% of all motor vehicle fatalities, 36.3% of all injury crashes, and 31.1% of all roadway crashes. "Speeding is a choice that puts everyone at risk,” said Chief of Police Jim Ritz. “It reduces the driver’s ability to steer safely around other vehicles, increases stopping distance, and can lead to more severe injuries if you are involved in a crash. We urge drivers to slow down and make the safe choice.”

The Illinois Speed Awareness Day campaign has a two-fold approach: to combine effective community outreach to roadway users on the importance of obeying the speed limit, along with an increased zero-tolerance enforcement effort.

The goal of the campaign is to raise awareness and save lives. There is no reason to speed; it is unnecessary and endangers everyone on the road. It may get you there a bit faster, but if you obey the speed limit, you and your passengers will most likely arrive alive.

This speed education and enforcement effort is part of the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police
"Speeding Catches Up with You" speed awareness campaign. It also supports IDOT’s broader "It’s Not a Game" media campaign.

🚨COMMUNITY ALERT 🚨

SUSPICIOUS PERSON & VEHICLE ALERT…PLEASE REVIEW YOUR CAMERAS

Last night, July 13th, 2026, between 7:33 PM and 7:45 PM, there was a suspicious incident involving two young girls that occurred near the Forest View Park. During this time, a subject was observed driving through the neighborhood.
According to the juveniles, they were near the park when a red SUV approached and the driver attempted to get their attention, causing them to feel uncomfortable.

Suspect Description:
• Hispanic/Mexican Male
• Heavy set
• Approximately 40s
• Black, shaggy, longer hair
• Driving a red/maroon vehicle


Residents in the area are asked to check home security cameras for any footage that may show the subject or a possible license plate. The Forest View Police Department is actively handling this incident and following all investigative leads. Important Reminders for Forest View Residents
With extreme temperatures continuing this week, the Forest View Police Department encourages all residents, especially older adults and those who may be more vulnerable, to take steps to stay safe and cool!!!! 💙

💙 Cooling Center Notice
The Art Treckler Room (second floor of Village Hall) will be open Monday–Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. as an official cooling center.
After 5:00 p.m., residents may use the Fire Department as a cooling center if needed.

💙 Stay Hydrated
Drink water throughout the day and avoid alcohol or sugary drinks, which can increase dehydration.

💙 Keep Your Home Cool
Use fans or air conditioning when possible. Close blinds and curtains during peak heat hours to block direct sunlight.

💙 Limit Outdoor Activity
Try to run errands or walk pets early in the morning or later in the evening. Wear light, loose‑fitting clothing.

💙 Check on Neighbors & Pets
A quick call or visit can make a big difference. Make sure pets have plenty of water and a cool place to rest.

💙 Know the Signs of Heat Illness
Watch for dizziness, nausea, headache, or confusion. Seek medical attention immediately if symptoms appear.

HAPPY AND SAFE 4TH OF JULY AND 250TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION!

The Forest View Police Department would like to wish each of you and your families a safe and enjoyable Fourth of July. As we celebrate our nation’s 250th birthday and gather with friends and family, we encourage everyone to have fun and celebrate responsibly and keep safety a top priority this weekend.

Please remember:

• If you choose to consume alcohol, designate a sober driver or arrange for a safe ride home.
• Follow our local ordinance regarding fireworks. Illegal or improperly used fireworks can cause serious injuries, fires, and property damage.
• Keep a close eye on children around fireworks, grills, pools, and roadways.
• Be mindful of your neighbors by keeping noise to a reasonable level and cleaning up after your celebrations.
