We’re excited to announce that our Kents Store station is officially staffed as of 08:00 this morning!

This station will be staffed daily from 08:00 until 20:00, and will transition to 24 hour staffing in the near future. This addition will improve our coverage and our ability to provide timely care to the community of Kents Store.

We think it’s especially fitting that this milestone happens to fall first day of EMS Week, a week dedicated to recognizing EMS providers around the country.

Congratulations to Company 1 Members Caleb Brent and David Jones, along with Company 2 Member Haley Walker, on successfully completing the Firefighting Program at CATEC under the instruction of Captain Bobby Elliott.

As part of this accomplishment, all three members completed Firefighter I, Hazmat Operations, and Firefighter II certifications. Their hard work, dedication, and commitment to serving the community are commendable, and we are proud to see them continue advancing in the fire service.

Please join us in congratulating Caleb, David, and Haley on this outstanding achievement!

Yesterday, we gathered to pay our final respects to Firefighter William John Hopkins, also known as Bill or King Bill. Bill joined Fork Union Volunteer Fire Company in 2013 and held positions as a firefighter/EMT, Lieutenant, and Assistant Chief.

We extend our gratitude to everyone who attended and supported the family; please continue to keep them in your prayers as they grieve their loss.

Rest in peace, Bill, and watch over us; we have it from here.

We would also like to express our special thanks to the Charlottesville Fire Departments Honor Guard for standing watch before the service and to Arvonia Volunteer Fire Department for staffing our building during the service.

At approximately 8:50 am this morning, all Fluvanna Fire Companies, Lake Monticello Fire Department, and Fluvanna Department of EMS were dispatched to a structure fire on Long Acre Rd. Dispatch also updated that there was one patient suffering from smoke inhalation. PEGASUS was added, as well as a second alarm that included Scottsville Fire Department and Louisa Fire & EMS. Rescue units found the patient near the residence along Long Acre Rd and began ALS care before transporting the patient to the nearby landing zone. E20 and Chief 50 arrived on the scene and found a single-wide trailer heavily involved with exposures. Two attack lines were placed in service, and crews began a defensive attack on the fire. Additional personnel and apparatus arrived and quickly knocked the fire down. A local contractor, Beach Excavating, had driven by the residence and stopped to help. They used their equipment to assist in pulling the metal roof and siding off the residence to assist in extinguishing all hot spots due to the unstable condition of the structure. We would like to extend our gratitude to Beach Excavating for their continued help and assistance. All units returned to service at approximately 1300.

Over 30 firefighters from Palmyra, Fork Union, Kents Store, Lake Monticello, and even departments as far away as North Carolina came together for an intense 2-day training event for the Victor Breeden Memorial Firemanship Training.

Crews trained in live fire conditions and worked through realistic, high-pressure scenarios including firefighter mayday and survival, ladder throws with obstacles, VES (Vent, Enter, Search), and primary search operations with some of the best instructors. The training culminated in a full burn of the structure, giving participants invaluable hands-on experience from start to finish.

Firefighters from multiple departments worked side by side, strengthening teamwork, sharpening skills, and building confidence in techniques that save lives.

Strong training. Stronger teamwork. 🔥🚒

Yesterday morning, units were dispatched to assist Buckingham County with a working structure fire in a two-story residence. Tanker 21 responded with a crew of two personnel.

Upon arrival, crews encountered fire that had extended through the walls and into the attic space. Interior crews initiated an offensive attack on the fire. However, as conditions deteriorated and the roof began to collapse, all interior crews were safely evacuated and operations transitioned to a defensive attack.

Additional manpower and a tanker were requested. Chief 1, Chief 20 and Tanker 20 responded to assist with suppression efforts.

After the bulk of the fire was knocked down, crews attempted to re-enter the residence to conduct overhaul operations. While inside, crews encountered unstable floor conditions and were forced to exit the structure again for safety.

Tower Ladder 53 from Lake Monticello Fire Department was then requested to assist with extinguishing remaining hotspots from the exterior.

The fire was eventually placed under control and all units returned to service.
