Phase II of Texas' ongoing plan to safely and strategically open while minimizing the spread of #COVID19 goes into effect today.

Under Phase II, restaurants may increase their occupancy to 50% and additional services & activities can open with restricted occupancy levels and minimum standard health protocols laid out by Texas Department of State Health Services.

Counties with significant #COVID19 hot spots will not move into Phase II until May 29.

These counties include El Paso, Randall, Potter, Moore, and Deaf Smith.

Surge Response Teams are working to increase testing and contain these hot spots.

By continuing to use safe practices, we are slowing the spread of #COVID19 and protecting our most vulnerable.

Now more than ever, we need to work together as one Texas.

Via Executive Order, the following services and activities may open under Phase II ⬇️

Starting this Friday, there will be drive-thru COVID-19 testing done at the Walmart in Forney. See below for all of the details!

A drive-through COVID-19 testing site will be located in the parking lot at the Walmart Supercenter in Forney (802 E US HIGHWAY 80, Forney, TX 75126) to test anyone who meets CDC and state and local guidelines on who should be tested, including first responders, health care providers, and other with symptoms of COVID-19 or at high risk, at no cost to the individual.

To be tested, individuals must schedule an appointment through eTrueNorth at www.DoINeedaCOVID19test.com, which will screen individuals to ensure they meet eligibility criteria. If individuals have difficulty scheduling an appointment, they can call 800-635-8611.

The testing will be done every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 7 am-9 am through May and potentially June. After making an appointment, you must bring your confirmation number and a valid ID. 05/05/2020

Important information related to additional items for reopening the Texas economy. Salons and barber shops can reopen with cautionary measures beginning this Friday, along with several other directives.

This afternoon, Governor Abbott provided another update on the state’s response to COVID-19 and the next phase of re-openings. Here are the noteworthy takeaways.

Effective Friday, May 8: Hair salons, nail salons, tanning salons and barber shops will be allowed to open with restrictions, including one customer per stylist and appropriate social distancing. The governor also strongly recommends masks for both stylists and customers, and using a reservation system to avoid grouping of walk-ins in waiting areas.

Effective Monday, May 18: Gyms and exercise facilities will be able to reopen with 25% capacity. Initial restrictions will include showers and locker rooms remaining closed, requirements for customers to wear gloves covering their whole hand, and the disinfection of all equipment after each use. Distancing will be required as well, and any equipment brought in (such as a yoga mat), must be disinfected before and after use.

Funerals, memorials, burials, and weddings are all treated the same as church services. They should all follow the Protocols for Churches and Places of Worship (alternate rows, limiting seating to household members together only). It is recommended that the provider of such services should provide spaces for vulnerable populations.

Non-essential manufacturing and other offices will be welcome to reopen Monday, May 18 to the greater of the following: five employees, or 25% of their workforce, provided that social distancing can be maintained.

Guidelines are still being worked out for bars and the status of tattoo shops were not clarified (will update when that information is released).

For a more detailed list on what businesses are open, visit https://gov.texas.gov/organization/opentexas

Governor Abbott also reaffirmed that while outdoor seating areas at restaurants do not have the same 25% capacity restrictions as indoor spaces, other regulations such as spacing between tables still apply.

Similarly, he clarified that regulations currently applied to state parks also apply to the state’s beaches, lakes and rivers, including river rafting; those restrictions include maintaining at least 6 feet of distance from others, and having no more than 5 in a group unless your party are all members of your household.
