The Forrest Township Library was begun in1939 as a WPA Project. It opened in the basement of the old high school, with Mrs. Alta Sorenson as the first librarian. In 1942, the project was discontinued, and in 1943, the Forrest Township Public Library was established with its first board of Trustees. In 1947, the library was moved from the school to the old town hall. In 1950, Miss Zetta Jennings g

ave the library a gift of $10,000 for a new library building in memory of her family. A year later, in 1951, the library was moved to the township hall. The library became a Public Libaray District in March of 1987, and in the fall of 1996, the Apostolic Christian Church of Forrest donated its former building to the district. The library opened the doors of its new and present site at 301 West James Street on June 3, 1997. In addition, the library building now houses the Village Office, Community Room, and Food Pantry.
