We have received a lot of questions about water levels on the Yellowstone River and Tongue River. What we know is, the record on the Yellowstone River was 130,000 cubic feet a second (cfs) and 14.5 feet. Right now, we are projected to hit 11.2 feet on Thursday. To give it a little more perspective, we almost hit 79,000 cfs and 12.2 feet in 2011.

For the Tongue River, flows are looking ok. This could change with the warmer weather that is expected to hit at the end of the week.

We recommend moving livestock and machinery to higher ground, because these are just estimates. We will continue to monitor the rivers as things change. If you would like to have a more up-to-date flow chart, please check out waterdata.usgs.gov.

Thanks,
Sheriff Allen Fulton.
