Fire Prevention Week is October 4-10. This year’s theme – “Charge Into Fire Safety ™. Safe Charging is a Superpower” – focuses on the everyday charging habits that can help reduce the risk of lithium-ion battery fires and keep homes and communities safer. This one-hour NVFC Roundtable Talk will bring subject matter experts together to share best-practices on ways fire and emergency service departments can engage citizens to practice safety when they plug in and power up.

Does your department have the right gear for the right response?

The NVFC and Ricochet are pleased to announce the September application period for the Ricochet PPE Award Program. Eligible departments have until September 30 at noon ET to apply for five sets of Ricochet Wildland Gear to better protect their firefighters during wildfire response. Five departments will be selected to receive five sets of wildland gear each.



To be eligible to apply, departments must:

Annually respond to wildfires (includes grassfires/brushfires)
Have at least one active NVFC member; check your membership status or join now
Be over 50% volunteer; paid on-call is considered volunteer
Serve a population of 25,000 or less
Be located in the U.S. and legally organized under state law
Demonstrate a need for the gear

Training Officer

JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for assisting/supervising the development and provision of training for department personnel.

MINIMUM TRAINING: Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a High School Diploma. Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems and a minimum of nine years’ experience with a recognized career fire department. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. Meet current requirements set forth by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and Georgia Firefighter Standards and Training Council as a Firefighter 2, Fire Instructor 2, Fire Officer 2, Live Fire Instructor, Hazardous Material Technician, Incident Safety Officer, NPQ Evaluator and a minimum of Emergency Medical Technician.
