Yesterday was the most beautiful day at the Brietzke Educational Wetland!
With the revitalization projected completed, the School District of Fort Atkinson hosted their 1st Annual BioBlitz for all 3rd graders in the district.
The students were led through different stations run by Dr. Andrea Romero and Dr. Brian O'Neill (Biology Professors from University of Wisconsin-Whitewater) and their students. They learned about the different animals and organisms that call the wetland home, reviewed photos/videos from weeks of trail cameras that had been set up in the space, learned how to use binoculars and magnifying glasses, and much more. Each class also took back a "wetland in a jar" for their classroom so they can see, over the coming weeks, how things grow and change.
It was a dream day for everyone who has worked on this project - to see the area come to life as a truly engaging, welcoming, accessible, educational space.

And the biggest thank you to the school district for their collaborative work with our foundation and for their commitment to enhancing the learning environments of their students. It was incredible how quickly and passionately they incorporated this wonderful asset into their curriculum to expand outdoor, hands-on learning opportunity for these kids!
We look forward to sharing more from the district and continuing our partnership to support this magical space.
