🚑 Happy Retirement, Steve Vanden Brink! 🚑

After 35 years of dedicated service, Steve Vanden Brink is retiring from WinnMed, leaving behind an extraordinary legacy in emergency medical services throughout Winneshiek County.

From his early days as a paramedic to more than two decades as Ambulance Director, Steve played an instrumental role in shaping EMS across our region through his commitment to patient care, education, mentorship, and teamwork.

During Steve's tenure, EMS evolved dramatically, growing from approximately 700 calls annually to more than 2,000. Throughout those years, Steve led with a simple but powerful philosophy: bring calm to the chaos. Whether caring for patients, mentoring staff, or navigating change, that steady approach helped shape the culture of our ambulance service and touched countless lives.

Thank you, Steve, for the dedication, compassion, and leadership you've shared over the past 35 years. We wish you all the best in this well-deserved next chapter. 👏💙

So we got the bill from Marv Smith Electric, Plumbing & Heating LLC and along with it was a very nice donation to the department for the new addition. Thank you for the donation and believing in us. It is much appreciated.

On July 28th, our department was proud to stand alongside nearly 20 neighboring fire departments in response to the large structure fire at AgriStar in Postville!
Incidents of this size are a reminder that no single department can handle every emergency alone. It takes teamwork, coordination, and the willingness of firefighters from many communities to come together with one common goal.
We’re grateful for the mutual aid partners who answered the call and for the support of our families, employers, and communities who make it possible for us to respond when we’re needed most.
Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this fire, and we wish those impacted the very best as they begin the recovery process.
