Weekly COVID-19 Vaccine Update - January 24, 2022
COVID-19 Vaccine continues to be available in the National Capital Region; however, temporary adjustments may be experienced over the next few weeks as the production of the legacy Pfizer vaccine stopped in December of 2021. DOD’s current supply of the legacy Pfizer vaccine in circulation is all that is available so we need to reserve this product for the primary series in service members.
Beginning January 31, 2022, at specific locations, there will be a temporary adjustment in the availability of vaccine provided for beneficiaries ages 12-17.
All COVID-19 vaccine appointments previously booked in the DHA Appointment Portal for the period January 18-28, 2022 will be honored as scheduled.
For beneficiaries ages 12-17 years, we ask that you temporarily obtain the COVID-19 vaccine through the civilian network. COVID-19 vaccines are available at Walgreen’s pharmacies and we encourage beneficiaries to visit their local health department websites to obtain information on additional no cost participating providers.
Please Note: WRNMMC and FBCH will continue providing the Pfizer vaccine for ages 5-11 years and the COVID-19 vaccine clinic will continue to offer the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine to the following groups:
• DoD Service Members (Active Duty, Reserves, and National Guard)
• Beneficiaries ages 5 to 11 years old
KEY POINTS:
1. All appointments previously booked in the DHA Appointment Portal for the period January 18-28, 2022 will be honored as scheduled and are not affected by this update.
2. For the week of January 24-28, the groups listed above may be vaccinated on a walk-in basis if unable to book an appointment.
3. Beginning Monday, January 31, we ask that beneficiaries ages 12-17 years obtain their vaccine through our network partners (Walgreen’s) and contact your local community health departments for participating locations.
4. All beneficiaries who are due for a second dose of the Pfizer vaccine during this time, but do not currently have an appointment, may also come to the clinic on a walk-in basis.
5. Please know, the NCR Market is working to obtain the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine to continue vaccinations to our general 18+ beneficiary population. Within the coming weeks, we will add appointments to the portal as the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine becomes available.
We apologize for any inconvenience this temporary shift may cause. As always, we appreciate your flexibility and we look forward to taking care of you and your family as we navigate through this period together. Vaccination remains the safest strategy for preventing future COVID-19 infections, hospitalizations, long-term effects and fatalities. Please continue to visit our social media sites and TRICARE Online for up to date information.
