The Defense Logistics Agency is the nation’s combat logistics support agency.

As the nation’s combat logistics support agency, the Defense Logistics Agency manages the end-to-end global defense supply chain – from raw materials to end user disposition – for the five military services, 11 combatant commands, other federal, state and local agencies and partner and allied nations. DLA’s mission is to “deliver readiness and lethality to the Warfighter Always and support our nat

ion through quality, proactive global logistics.” To accomplish this mission, DLA has a staff of about 25,000 employees divided into multiple supply chains that contract for material and services across the military classes of supply, to include: subsistence (food/water), clothing and textiles, bulk petroleum and other energy products, construction material and equipment, personal demand items, medical material and equipment, and repair parts for land, sea and air systems. DLA Quick Facts: As a logistics integrator and acquisition/service provider:
- DLA procures items from manufacturers and suppliers and provides them to DoD and other federal/state customers, with services such as warehousing, packaging and transportation;
- DLA contracts for items that are shipped directly by the manufacturer to military units and installations;
- DLA disposes of excess military property through reutilization, resale and demilitarization programs. As we celebrate the resilience that defines the Aloha State, we're proud to highlight how the Pearl Harbor team answered the call when Maui County faced an urgent crisis following the catastrophic failure of its Lahaina Wastewater Treatment Plant centrifuges. The team’s swift action in donating and delivering critical equipment ensured uninterrupted operations for the people of Maui.

“DLA Disposition Services Pearl Harbor’s swift action was instrumental in addressing Maui County’s urgent needs,” said Faron Cordrey, the director of DLA’s property disposition efforts across the Indo-Pacific region. “Their support ensured that the local community could continue vital wastewater treatment operations without significant interruption.”

The Defense Logistics Agency’s Office of Small Business Programs is excited to launch the DLA Mentor-Protégé Program, a new initiative designed to help small businesses grow, thrive, and compete for federal contracts.

“This is another tool that we will use to help strengthen our defense industrial base,” said DLA Small Business Director Daniele Kurze. “It will give small businesses new opportunities to grow and learn from large suppliers, which can help us fill critical gaps in our supply chain down the road.”

DLA was honored to collaborate with our allies during ! Check out how we teamed up with the Royal Australian Navy and others below. ⬇️

With over for another 2 years, military personnel from New Zealand, Canada, Australia and the US worked together this year for a better environmental clean-up.

In previous years, disposing of sonar buoy casings has been a slow process. Working together, the group made quick work of preparing the casings to meet the requirements for effective disposal by the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) and helped comply with the environmental impact requirements for Hawaii.

Norfolk, Virginia, continues its proud legacy of supporting the Pacer Goose mission at Pituffik Space Base, the DoD’s northernmost installation!

For 27 consecutive years, our team has ensured that critical supplies reach this remote Arctic outpost, working in partnership with our NATO ally, Denmark. This year, over 193,000 cubic feet of material—more than 511 tons—was successfully loaded onto the transport ship by DLA.

: DLA Distribution Pearl Harbor, Hawaii played a major role in the 2024 Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) exercise, supporting military units from nearly 30 nations!

"I am extremely proud of this team," said Navy Cmdr. Sean Moody. "We have civilians, sailors, airmen, and soldiers working side-by-side supporting military units from nearly 30 nations. It is a great example of the capabilities that DLA brings to the fight."

The team managed over 10,000 requisitions, 600 customer pick-ups, and expedited over 600 urgent casualty report parts and 54 cold chain items. Their efforts ensured smooth operations and effective support to homeported ships, submarines, and Joint Service units.

👏 Join us in honoring John Karns for his nearly 50 years of service to our nation! John, the chief counsel at DLA Distribution, was recognized in a ceremony on July 26 in New Cumberland, Pennsylvania.

“You leave behind some big shoes to fill,” said Jon Leightner, acting general counsel, DLA. “DLA has benefited from your leadership and dedication for nearly 20 years. Thank you for all you have done for our nation.”

Starting with two years in the U.S. Army and 26 years in the United States Air Force, John joined the team in 2006 and became chief counsel in 2009. Over the years, he was responsible for everything from contract and fiscal law to Freedom of Information and Privacy Act requests.

He led DLA through significant changes from 1997 to 2001, overseeing great advancements in technology, processes, and culture. His legacy still inspires us today.

Logistics is key to a successful exercise or operation. 🌍

During the Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) exercise, the DLA Indo-Pacific team worked tirelessly to support U.S. military participants. 🌊 Twenty-nine nations, 40 surface ships, three submarines, 14 national land forces, more than 150 aircraft, and 25,000 personnel participated in RIMPAC in and around the Hawaiian Islands from June 27 to August 1.

As the world’s largest international maritime exercise, RIMPAC provides a unique training opportunity, fostering and sustaining cooperative relationships critical for ensuring the safety of sea lanes and global ocean security. RIMPAC 2024 marks the 29th exercise in this historic series that began in 1971.

From the Air Force to the DOJ! ✈️

The United States Department of Justice recently acquired three King Air 350 transport aircraft from DLA through a federal property transfer. Originally valued at $17 million each, these planes will now serve the U.S. Marshals Service, enhancing their air surveillance capabilities for vital missions such as fugitive apprehension.

DLA's mission to reutilizing, transferring, and donating billions of dollars in used and excess Defense Department items ensures that valuable resources are continuously repurposed to serve various federal, state, and local entities.

A nine-person team from Corpus Christi, Texas, executed a combat download of a damaged UH-60M Blackhawk helicopter from the U.S. Central Command area to the Corpus Christi Army Depot for maintenance.

This mission, a first for the team, was carried out in coordination with the Air Force, showcasing the seamless collaboration and expertise of our airlift team.

“Regardless of volume or time of day, the airlift team stays ready to execute this vital mission,” said Elyse Atoe, deputy operations chief for DLA Distribution Corpus Christi.

🏅Four exceptional DLA employees were honored during the Defense Department’s 2024 Workforce Recruitment Program Awards Ceremony at the Pentagon for their dedication to supporting and hiring people with disabilities!

Davina Calloway from the DLA Equal Employment Opportunity and Diversity Office was named WRP Participant of the Year! As a program analyst, she manages scheduling and administrative support for sign language interpreters throughout DLA Headquarters.

Director Mike Cannon and Deputy Director Col. Woodje Caldwell sat down with Maj. Gen. Tripp Bowles during his recent visit to the Hart-Dole-Inouye Federal Center in Battle Creek, Michigan. Bowles serves as the director of Joint Reserve Force at DLA Headquarters in Fort Belvoir, Virginia.

The mission of the Joint Reserve Force is to provide DLA with trained and deployment ready reservists for contingency operations and mission support to deliver responsive and flexible logistics capability and capacity.

Enhancing the customer experience at DLA! 📞

The Customer Support Division’s Customer Service Management team recently had an immersive experience in Battle Creek, Michigan, where they engaged with ServiceNow's CSM platform operations. During their three-day visit, team members had the unique opportunity to sit alongside Level 1 agents in the DLA Customer Interaction Center.

This firsthand experience allowed the team to listen to and understand the types of calls that agents handle, gaining valuable insights into customer interactions and daily challenges.

RIMPAC Logistics in Action

Logistics is key to a successful exercise or operation. 🌍 During the Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) exercise, the DLA Indo-Pacific team worked tirelessly to support U.S. military participants. 🌊 Twenty-nine nations, 40 surface ships, three submarines, 14 national land forces, more than 150 aircraft, and 25,000 personnel participated in RIMPAC in and around the Hawaiian Islands from June 27 to August 1. As the world’s largest international maritime exercise, RIMPAC provides a unique training opportunity, fostering and sustaining cooperative relationships critical for ensuring the safety of sea lanes and global ocean security.
