Why Track Your Volunteer Time?
Here are three of many reasons why you should document your volunteer time on VMIS:
• Information for your resume
• Department of the Army looks into VMIS to see statistics on volunteer hours and involvement and where funding is needed.
• To assist your unit or organization with volunteer recognition for Fort Bliss or Department of the Army awards. Having your VMIS Profile and Hours up-to-date can be very helpful to those
who wish to recognize you.

I'd like to recommend Mrs. Brittiny Nelson as our second Shining Star nomination! Brittiny's meritorious service and leadership to our Bravo Battery, 4-1 FA Family Readiness Group pre-dates my assumption of command in April 2018. However, I can tell you that I've seen her at EVERY single event we've had since I've been in command! Given our battalion's current deployment to Korea, Brittiny was instrumental in the planning and preparation of the battalion's "Breakfast with Santa" event last December, making the holidays a little more enjoyable for our separated families. Also, since Brittiny's husband is an enlisted member of our ranks, her consistent and confident presence alone helps bridge the unfortunate gap that sometimes exists between rank demographics in FRGs. We LOVE Brittiny and know she's a huge part of our flourishing FRG's continued growth. She's an incredible Defender spouse whose impact is felt battalion-wide! She eptimozies our battalion motto of "First or Not at All!" #2019FBShiningStarVolunteers
I'd like to nominate Mrs. Lidia Gallegos as a Fort Bliss Shining Star! Lidia is a Battery FRG Leader in 4-1 FA where I command, but her contributions to our Soldiers and Families far exceed the battery level! Prior to our deployment, Lidia not only spearheaded the FRG effort to support our "Stay Ready Resilient" Workshop, but she participated in each of 5 total 4 hour iterations across the battalion. Since being here in Korea, Lidia has participated in literally every FRG event the BN has held, along with continuing to lead her own. Lidia has truly been a stalwart of our growing Family Readiness Group and it's for that reason that I nominate her as a Fort Bliss Shining Star! #2019FBShiningStarVolunteers
Over the past 3 months, Claudia Madrid volunteered over 150 hours and greatly assisted the Fort Bliss Legal Assistance Office through her outstanding legal research and outstanding document drafting skills. She has been extremely generous in sharing her time and special talents to support the Soldiers and military families of the Fort Bliss community. #2019FBShiningStarVolunteers
Over the past 7 months, Caressa Garcia contributed over 200 volunteer hours to the Legal Client Services Division within the Office of the Staff Judge Advocate, specifically benefitting members of the Fort Bliss Military Community in the area of Legal Assistance. Caressa was instrumental in providing support with Legal Assistance client in-take and front desk operations, to include performing notarial services. She authored a Preventative Law article for publication in the post newspaper. Caressa performed all of these tasks in a very professional manner and with great competence and aplomb. #2019FBShiningStarVolunteers
Omar Granados contributed over 200 volunteer hours to the Legal Client Services Division within the Office of the Staff Judge Advocate over the past 7 months. He was instrumental in providing support with Legal Assistance client in-take and front desk operations, to include performing notarial services. Omar has quickly become an integral part of the Legal Assistance team, providing meaningful help to members of the Fort Bliss Military Community in the area of Legal Assistance. #2019FBShiningStarVolunteers
Over the past 7 months, Leslie Chavez has contributed over 350 volunteer hours to the Legal Client Services Division within the Office of the Staff Judge Advocate, specifically benefitting members of the Fort Bliss Military Community in the area of Legal Assistance. Leslie was instrumental in providing support with Legal Assistance client in-take and front desk operations, to include performing notarial services. She also greatly assisted the office through her legal research and by drafting memos and documents for the office’s attorneys. She is an extremely hard worker who is very dedicated to helping others. #2019FBShiningStarVolunteers
