CAL FIRE is taking carbon monitoring to new heights ‼️

Our carbon flux towers measure how carbon, water, and energy move between the forest and the atmosphere-providing scientists with real-time insights into how redwood ecosystems respond to a changing climate. Data from the Carbon Flux Towers will inform strategies that strengthen forest health, improve climate resilience, and guide future conservation efforts across California.

This week JDSF staff have been hard at work getting campgrounds ready for the summer season. Remember that each site is first come first serve and you should bring your own water, as well as $20 cash or check per night.

* Camp One may temporarily close this season for culvert replacement on Road 350.

Earlier today (5/1/26), while performing vegetation management activities near Covelo, four firefighters from the CAL FIRE/Mendocino Unit received burns and were transported to UC Davis Burn Center and Howard Memorial for assessment and treatment. Due to the remote location and the need to ensure our employees received rapid care, two of the firefighters were flown by helicopter to UC Davis. All four employees have been evaluated and released from the hospital.
