INCIDENT UPDATE

INCIDENT: Residential Structure Fire
LOCATION: 700 Block of S. Center Street
DATE: 7/28/2026

INCIDENT DETAILS:

At approximately 11:38 AM today, the Fort Branch-Union Township Fire Territory was dispatched to a reported residential structure fire in the 700 block of S. Center Street.
In accordance with emergency response protocols, automatic and mutual aid were dispatched immediately, bringing units from Haubstadt, Patoka Township Fire Department, Owensville Fire Department, and Princeton Fire Department to the scene.

First arriving crews were met with heavy fire showing from two sides of the structure and immediately fire attack operations. Due to the intensity of the fire and the need for additional personnel, the incident was upgraded to bring in a manpower response from the Vanderburgh County Fire Department.

CASUALTIES / INJURIES:

We are happy to report that the residence was unoccupied at the time of the fire. No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported.

STATUS:

As of 4:15 PM (16:15), all fire units have cleared the scene and returned to service. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the state fire marshals office.

The Fort Branch-Union Township Fire Territory extends our sincere and heartfelt thanks to all of our automatic and mutual aid partners. Patoka Township, Owensville, Princeton, and Vanderburgh County. Seamless teamwork between neighboring departments is vital during incidents like these, and we couldn't do what we do without your support.

Just a reminder, we still have a few spots open for our state funded fire academy starting August 4th, in two weeks. This is a completely free academy as long as you’re sponsored by a fire department.

Schedule is Tuesdays and Thursdays 6-10pm and some Saturdays starting at 8am. If interested, we can send a copy of the syllabus.

At approximately 7:23 PM, the Fort Branch-Union Township Fire Territory, along with automatic aid from the Haubstadt Fire Territory, was dispatched to the 200 block of N. Elm Street for a reported residential structure fire.

FBFT arrived on scene to find active fire and smoke showing from the structure. Crew members from FBFT quickly deployed two hose lines to begin an aggressive fire attack and support primary search efforts.

Thanks to the rapid response and seamless teamwork of all responding agencies, the fire was brought under control. We are incredibly grateful to report that there were no civilian or firefighter injuries.

Earlier today Fort Branch/Union Twp Fire Territory responded to a structure fire in Fort Branch. Would like to acknowledge the following agencies who assisted ; Haubstadt Fire, Owensville/Montgomery Fire, Gibson County Medic 4 Gibson County Sheriff Dept. , Gibson County Dispatch. And thanks to Gibson County Red Cross who is assisting the homeowners. A group effort on a hot afternoon.

| Looking back at the 2007 Emge Meat Packing Plant fire. It was a historic and demanding firefight that truly showed the strength and resilience of the Fort Branch Fire Department and our neighboring departments.

Fort Branch Fire Territory will be hosting a State Fire Academy starting this August. It will consist of:

Hazmat Awareness
Hazmat Operations
Firefighter I
Firefighter II

Most classes will be Tuesday & Thursdays from 6 PM to 10 PM. There will be Saturdays as well, those are from 8 AM - Until Finished.

If any department or interested person is wanting a copy of the schedule, send us a message and we will send you a copy.

This will be hosted at our Station 2 on 650 S.
