Today the Packhorse (4BSB) and Angry Viking (2-12FA) Battalions executed a joint lateral appointment ceremony for Master Sergeant McPhaul to the rank of First Sergeant. 1SG McPhaul will take responsibility of F FSC later this month and excited to have her on the Team! Welcome to the Team!!

Col. Kevin Bass, commander, Evans Army Community Hospital, discusses the COVID-19 vaccine distribution timeline to military treatment facilities. All personnel are advised to continue current mitigation measures, including wearing a mask, social distancing and using hand sanitizer.
On November 19th leadership celebrated the founding of 4th Brigade Support Battalion with some early morning PT. Originally formed as 4th Supply Train in 1917 at Camp Greene, North Carolina, 4th BSB has a rich history of serving in a handful of wars and armed conflicts. 4th BSB has also been activated in numerous other bases such as Fort Benning, Georgia and Fort Ord, California. We look forward to another 100 years of 4th Brigade Support Battalion.
With holiday block leave coming up it is important to know how to properly conduct yourself to mitigate exposure to Covid-19. SFRG is hosting a Virtual Chat on December 10 to provide helpful tips on how to keep both yourself and your family safe during the holiday season.

Last week was pivotal part in our Battalion's formation as 4BSB conducted two change of responsibilities for both our Bravo Company and HHC 1SG's. 1SG Wilkey, Gregory was the Bravo Company's outgoing 1SG who passed the torch to SFC (1SG) Pardo, Nelson. HHC MSG (1SG) Bourdeau, Kendra received a farewell gift from CSM Raby right before passing the torch to 1SG Babineaux, Sidney.

Please send this to other soldiers that will be remaining in the area this Thanksgiving, we want everybody to have the chance to be included in some sort of festivities during the holidays.
Today the Packhorse Company and Battalion Command Teams got together for Ready and Resiliency (R2) training. The R2’s Meta Cognitive Challenge started with physical activities followed by mental activities. The goal of R2 training is to strengthen personal and unit readiness while fostering an environment of trust and teamwork.
This week for Leader’s Time Training (LTT) the Packhorse Battalion continued training on ESB tasks. The focus was weapon familiarization. Soldiers were timed on disassembly and assembly, functions check, and correcting malfunctions on multiple weapon systems.
Today we focused on Soldier’s career paths, resiliency training, and counseling during our monthly Foundational Readiness Day.

Today for LTT, the Packhorse Battalion went over Medical ESB lanes. Charlie Company organized and trained this battalion wide LTT with lanes covering spinal injuries, heat casualties, burns, fractures, CPR, and more.

Today the Packhorse Battalion competed for the Commander's Cup in the Packhorse Challenge Competition.
The ESB focused competition started at the obstacle course. After completing the obstacle course, Soldiers continued rucking to the next four lanes, picking up new supplies at each lane. These lanes included a commo task, PT challenge, weapons assembly and functions check, and treatment and EVAC of a casualty.
The Packhorse Challenge proved to be both challenging and fun - creating trust between battle buddies and increasing esprit de corps among teams.

This past week the Packhorse Battalion and all of the 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, took part in the first of many Fort Carson "Soldier First" initiatives, Operation Mountain Post Resolve. In an enduring effort to build a team of teams, the Packhorse Battalion through group discussion, and team building events promoted and encouraged concepts of accountability of each other, and that people are our greatest asset. Through forum and group discussion opportunities The Battalion promoted open dialog to address a broad spectrum of topics from finance and suicide awareness, to racial diversity within our formation. The Battalion will continue Soldier First efforts to facilitate an environment that encourages team camaraderie and unity.

Today the Packhorse Battalion underwent Foundational Readiness Training. This training, held in small group discussions, encompassed topics such as racial diversity, mental health, and financial preparedness, among other topics. The purpose of this training is to provide information, as well as various view points, on topics that are often difficult to discuss.
Foundational Readiness Training places an emphasis on the Soldiers’ and Families’ well being - an integral part to our mission and essential for the unity of the Packhorse Battalion.
In addition to our training today, we were able to celebrate the promotion of SSG Sablan, Trans platoon, Alpha Company. Congratulations SSG Sablan!

Over the past two days, the Packhorse Battalion has gone through our first Battalion wide ACFT. The ACFT tested the Soldiers' physical strength and endurance through six events designed to demonstrate and test combat readiness.
Today, we held a NCO and Soldier of the Month Board. SGT Silva, A Co, was recognized for NCO of the Month and SPC Tinkler, C Co, for Soldier of the Month. They both have consistently demonstrated the Army Values and strong work ethic throughout their time in the Packhorse Battalion. Congratulations SGT Silva and SPC Tinkler!
Today was a great day for the Packhorse Battalion!
This morning, a rigorous team building PT session for senior NCOs was conducted by SSG Moller. At the completion of the PT session SSG Moller facilitated a discussion on respect within the ranks of our formation.
Following the intense PT session, 4BSB held a 1SG appointment ceremony for 1SG Tutt and 1SG Illert. We are proud and excited to see how these senior NCOs help shape the BSB!
Finally, the Packhorse Reception PLT got after training with an extensive course on counseling, a behavioral health brief, and preliminary marksmanship instruction.

Due to a change in schedule, Bravo Company and Charlie Company will have their date changed so that their SFRG event is on August 29th from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at Iron Horse Park. HHC and Alpha Company SFRG event has NO CHANGE to date/location. I apologize for any inconvenience. If you live in closer proximity to the North event (John Venezia Park) than the on-post event (Iron Horse Park), feel free to show up to whichever is closer to you, no matter what company!

This past week 4th Brigade Support Battalion, 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, worked hard prepping vehicles and containers for the upcoming NTC rotation. Today, Soldiers from the 4th Sustainment Brigade assisted 4BSB to certify vehicles and containers moving by rail to NTC. The certification process consists of weighing all containers and vehicles, ensuring proper documentation on all equipment, and the correct loading and packaging of all equipment. The planning and execution of the past week's hard work ensures 4BSB remains ready to support and execute any and all missions that come its way. #PackhorseStrong #RaiderBrigade #SteadFastandLoyal

Tomorrow’s Colorado flyover serves as a salute to the healthcare workers, first responders and other essential personnel on the front line against COVID-19 in the Centennial State.
Our flight path starts at 12:50 in Greeley and winds south to Pueblo over what is estimated to be a one-hour flyover.

Raiders, today we’re focusing on balance, as part of our “build your foundation” series. Facebook is a little bit clunky, so I can’t add all the videos and pictures to one post. The video attached the this post shows a way to train and test balance progressions.
Double leg, tandem stance, single leg, in that order. Tested for 30 seconds x 4 conditions: eyes open on a hard surface, eyes closed on a hard surface, eyes open on a soft surface, and finally eyes closed on a soft surface. If you can’t hit those benchmarks, practice until you can! The next video shows a more dynamic balance assessment called the Y-Balance Test.

Last week, Bravo Company hosted an AT4 Range for the Packhorse Battalion, incorporating laser range finders and challenging Soldiers to engage targets at unknown distances. Pvt. 1st Class Aaliyah Cotto from Alpha Company was named "Top Shot" by hitting 11 out of 12 targets.

On October 23rd 2018, #Packhorse Soldiers participated in the AT4 Range, successfully making the Packhorse Battalion a better and more lethal formation.

Packhorse endured a 17-day CALFEX on 4 March-21 March 2017. During the field exercise, the 4BSB conducted MEDEVACS, aerial resupply, CBRN operations, and relocating the BSA several times. The Soldiers pushed through training during the high winds, cold weather, and fatigued all while sustaining the brigade during resupply missions and a full time running SSA. They've demonstrated that the 4BSB can run without interruption to support and sustain the fight.
