This ruling is a huge step in the right direction! Together we can help foster a culture if not just accountability but prevention as well.

The decision, published Dec. 10, could open up new military prosecutions for r**es that occurred between 1986 and 2006.

Parent and Student Alert!

The US. Department of Education has revamped the way that s*xual harassment is handled at not only Colleges and Universities but also K-12. Please take the time to educate yourself and share as well. Many people don't know what constitutes s*xual harassment much less how to report it. The process is different for every organization and jurisdiction.

WASHINGTON — U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos took historic action today to strengthen Title IX protections for survivors of s*xual misconduct and to restore due process in campus proceedings to ensure all students can pursue an education free from s*x discrimination. For the first time eve...

What is the backfire effect?

Brendan Nyhan and Jason Reifler coined the term “backfire effect” to describe the way that even given evidence against their beliefs, people maintain their beliefs, actually becoming even more strongly convinced of said beliefs. We are sharing this to help bring awareness as to why it sometimes so hard to have difficult conversations with others and what makes them "dig their heels in" even when presented with evidence of something contrary to their current belief. Please take a moment to read and provide any feedback based on what it covers.

No one has to go through difficult times alone. We understand that there may be some hesitancy to speak to someone in person. If that is the case there are viable options for anyone who is looking for ways to take care of themselves. The Safe Helpline is a great source. You can also reach out anonymously to the Fort Carson SHARP Hotline at 719-338-9654 for local resources that are not military related if military affiliation is a concern.

We want to remind people we are here and these are some of the options available to those who have experienced s*xual harassment or s*xual assault in the military.

For restricted reports of s*xual assault, The CATCH Program gives people an opportunity to anonymously disclose suspect information. This is one thing we have to give victims a confidential reporting option which potentially provides them with knowledge of their assailant. With that knowledge, they still have a right to choose if they want to keep a restricted (confidential) report or request an investigation to seek justice.

Sexual harassment incidents have an option for reporting where a complainant can also maintain some level of privacy. At Fort Carson, complaints can be made anonymously through several avenues. Anonymous complaints protect the identity of the complainant while the commander determines if the allegation provides enough information to direct an inquiry or investigation into the matter. If the commander chooses to conduct an inquiry or direct an investigation, they could hold the responsible party accountable for their actions or direct actions to address the behavior. If the commander does not feel there is enough information to take action, they are encouraged to document the receipt of the complaint.

All of these options can be accessed through any of our SARCs or Victim Advocates and through the following contact points. We have both uniformed and civilian personnel who are here to assist.

Fort Carson 24/7 SHARP Hotline: 719-338-9654 (always handled by a credentialed party who can maintain confidentiality).

email: [email protected] (only credentialed personnel have access to this email)

We care about these issues and want people to know that they matter and resources are available when you are ready. Please reach out to our team.
