🍌School's out for summer, but we're still smiling about unexpected event that our SRO Sergeant happened upon in the halls of Berthoud High School. On Banana Day, students from the Sources of Strength peer support group dressed up and handed out inspirational produce. We can see the a-peel!

The final bell recently rang for the school year, but the memory of this sweet moment remains strong for us and we hope it continues to resonate with students, too.

No matter where this summer takes you, know that you've got a lot of people (and friendly produce) in your corner. Enjoy the well-deserved break and keep taking care of yourselves and each other!

🔥LARIMER COUNTY FIRE RESTRICTIONS EXTENDED: MAY 6-JULY 21, 2026

Despite recent precipitation, the danger of wildfire, forest, and grass fires remains extremely high due to above-normal temperatures, extended drought, and persistently windy, dry conditions. On recommendation by the Larimer County Sheriff, the Board of Larimer County Commissioners voted 3-0 on Tuesday to extend fire restrictions.

CURRENTLY RESTRICTED:
❌Contained Open Fires. This includes open fire in a permanently constructed, stationary masonry or metal fireplaces specifically designed for the purpose of combustion
❌Uncontained Open Fires, including outdoor charcoal, pellet, and wood stoves/grills
❌Smoking in the open is not allowed, including on trails, parks and open spaces
❌Combustible devices
❌Operating or using any device with an internal or external combustion engine without a spark arrest device properly installed and in effective order

CURRENTLY ALLOWED:
✔️Fireplaces or wood stoves located inside a residence
✔️Gas or liquid fueled fires, including grills and camping stoves
✔️Open burning (official forest management purposes)
✔️Execution of authorized burn permits
✔️“Permissible fireworks” which do not leave the ground, as defined in Colorado State Statute (C.R.S. 24-33.5-2001(11))

PLEASE use good judgment if you're performing one of the activities that are allowed. Always be aware of your surroundings and play it smart. Preventing wildfire is everyone's responsibility!

These restrictions ONLY apply to unincorporated Larimer County; municipalities (towns/cities) set their own restrictions. Read the full resolution and check out an interactive map here: https://www.larimer.gov/spotlights/2026/05/27/larimer-county-extends-fire-restrictions

🐕PUPDATE! Quite a few people have asked about the puppies that deputies recently rescued during their time helping in Costilla County. Our friends from the San Luis Valley Animal Welfare Society just reached out to let us know they're all doing well. They're safe, well-cared for, and will be available for adoption once they're old enough.

This is a great reminder that we have SO many incredible animal rescues around the state. If you're thinking about adding a furry friend to your pack, adoption is a great way to find a new best friend.

Let's keep the feel good vibes going strong - tag your favorite local rescue in the comments!

The cost of freedom is high, and today we honor those who paid it with their lives. Your service, your sacrifice, and your dedication to something bigger than yourself -- it all made a difference. We'll continue to carry your family in our hearts as your legacy unfolds in all who knew and loved you. Words can't express the depths of our gratitude.

Driving under the influence plays a major role in traffic fatalities - last year, 1 in 3 Colorado roadway deaths involved impairment. In addition to enforcement, we also proactively educate future drivers about the dangers of drunk driving.

With the help of a Colorado Department of Transportation grant, our School Resource Deputy for CLP Middle School recently ran an interactive DUI education program for students.

They learned about the dangers of driving under the influence, indicators of an intoxicated driver, field sobriety tests, and criminal laws. Students also got a chance to wear specialized goggles to experience the effects of different drugs and various levels of alcohol intoxication. From driving a cart on an obstacle course to simply trying to walk around, this immersive experience demonstrated just how much drugs and alcohol can affect basic functioning.

Thanks to all who participated in this program. Sober drivers save lives!

If you've been following headlines, you've seen that our Southern Colorado neighbors in Costilla County have experienced quite a bit of turbulence. Half of their sheriff's office was indicted in March, leaving citizens in this rural area essentially without law enforcement resources. An interim sheriff was appointed, and agencies from around the state have been helping out with patrol coverage until things stabilize.

Small squads of LCSO deputies offered to support this effort, living and working in Costilla County for about a week at a time (rotating with other sheriff's offices). This has included everything ranging from fire investigations to rescuing two litters of puppies to simply showing up for residents whose trust in law enforcement has been broken.

Long days but meaningful work, and we appreciate all who stepped up to help this community during a difficult time.

Our friends at Bamford Elementary School recently held a fundraising auction to support school activities. Two of our bidding buddies won the "SRO Experience" and got to spend a part of their day with their SRO, Deputy Baggett. They ate lunch together, toured his patrol vehicle, and even got to check out some of his gear.

These two had so much fun they didn't want to go back to class. We get it - this is a fun job, but school is important (especially when you're in kindergarten and third grade like our friends here). Study hard, help others, and someday we'd love to work side-by-side!

It's National EMS Week! Our emergency medical partners play a pivotal role in saving lives every single day. We work closely with them and have enormous gratitude for the work they do.

Special shout out to the Tactical Rescue Paramedics in our LCSO Emergency Operations Medical Unit. From wildfires to backcountry rescues to high-risk calls and everything in between, these two cover a LOT of ground. Not only have they stabilized patients in extreme environments and supported fatigued firefighters in the midst of major blazes, they also provide regular in-house training to staff so more people have the tools to save lives when seconds count.

To all of our EMS friends, THANK YOU. Your service means the world to so many, and we appreciate you more than we can say!
