🎆FIREWORKS REPORTING TOOL COMING JULY 1 - JULY 6🎆
Every Independence Day, our Dispatch Center gets inundated by firework reports on and around the holiday. These reports account for hundreds of incoming calls, which create challenges as Dispatchers work to maintain 9-1-1 operations for true emergencies.
We’re taking a different approach this year with a new online Fireworks Reporting Tool, which will be live from July 1 through July 6. Community members can enter the location of concern, which then feeds into an interactive map. Our Dispatch crew will use this data to keep deputies up to date on problem areas. Things like assaults, crimes in progress, and other emergencies will remain our priority.
As a reminder, anything that leaves the ground or explodes is illegal under Colorado law. Given the drought conditions and high fire danger, personal fireworks are particularly concerning this year.
While addressing aerial ignitions remains on our radar, our deputies are still responsible for responding to emergencies across the county. Please do us a favor on the Fourth and keep celebrations on the ground. If you’re concerned about illegal firework activity, help us out by reporting it online instead of calling. That said, if you see an active fire or injuries, call 9-1-1 immediately.
