In the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision to gut the Voting Rights Act, Southern statehouses are resurrecting Jim Crow and erasing Black representation and democracy along with it. Tennessee barred the doors as it took the last majority Black district off its map at the same time judges struck down a referendum that gave voters better maps in Virginia.
The billionaires in Washington don’t need to outright steal the election in November if they disenfranchise voters ahead of time. And that’s exactly what they’re trying to do. Because of the massive pro-worker and pro-democracy movements Black coalitions are building, they’re working overtime to turn the country backwards…and they’re attacking Black voters in the South first.
State by state, the Voting Rights Act is being blatantly dismantled. In modern times, we must use new tactics like economic pressure, political organizing, community action, culture, and mutual aid. We all must rise together, speak out, and make these racist oppressors relics of the past.
