On May 13, 2026, at approximately 1:00 PM, the Jeff Davis County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a concerned parent regarding an unknown male who was seen being escorted out of Dirks-Anderson Elementary School by the principal. The individual was not authorized to be on school property.

A Jeff Davis County deputy made contact with Gerardo Martinez Tercero at 712 State Street. Upon contact with law enforcement, Martinez displayed unusual behavior, and was acting unstable. During the investigation Martinez was found to be in possession of ma*****na and was arrested for Possession of Ma*****na in a Drug-Free Zone. He was subsequently transported to the Hudspeth County Jail.

On May 6, 2026, at approximately 8:10 PM, a deputy working Stonegarden with the Jeff Davis County Sheriff’s Office made contact with a driver on State Street in Fort Davis after receiving calls regarding a vehicle swerving and driving erratically.

Following further investigation Justin Guevara was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) after failing a field sobriety test conducted by Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS). Guevara was later transported to the Hudspeth County Jail without further incident.

🚨Drug Possession Arrests🚨

On May 7, 2026, at approximately 5:41 p.m., a deputy working Stonegarden with the Jeff Davis County Sheriff's Office responded to a theft report at Lowe’s Grocery Store in Fort Davis.

Deputies located the two subjects in question in the 500 block of South State Street. During the investigation, one suspect was found to have an active warrant through the Austin Board of Pardons and Parole for Dangerous Drug Possession.

A search of both subject, Ruben Adele Cameron and Levi Henry Thatcher, resulted in the discovery of methamphetamine, L*D, syringes, and a THC v**e pen. Both subjects were arrested for Possession of Controlled Substances and transported to the Hudspeth County Jail without incident.

🚨🚨Update 🚨🚨

The Valentine ISD lockdown has been lifted.

Valentine ISD was placed on lockdown early this morning following an armed burglary in the area. The suspect fled, prompting a large law enforcement response.

An officer-involved shooting has since occurred. The suspect has been located and the threat has been eliminated. The pursuit ended on RM 505, and the Texas Rangers will be conducting the investigation into the officer-involved shooting.

The Jeff Davis County Sheriff’s Office extends its thanks to the Marfa Police Department, Texas Department of Public Safety, Presido County Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Border Patrol for their assistance. All law enforcement personnel involved are safe and unharmed.

Today, Sheriff Lopez hosted the Sheriff’s School Safety Meeting at Fort Davis High School, bringing together key partners committed to keeping our students safe.

The Sheriff’s Office was joined by Texas Department of Public Safety and our dedicated Game Wardens, all working collaboratively to strengthen safety efforts across our schools. We were also grateful to have staff in attendance from Fort Davis High School, the middle school, and Dirks Elementary.

We want to extend a sincere thank you to all the agencies who took part and contributed their time, knowledge, and support to this important meeting. Your partnership makes a difference.

A special thank you goes out to our teachers and school staff. You are truly the first line of defense for our children, and your commitment, vigilance, and care do not go unnoticed.

Together, we continue to build a safer future for our students.

School Safety 🚨✔️

The Jeff Davis County Sheriff’s Office recently hosted a school safety training in Valentine, Texas, alongside our partners from the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).

This training covered a wide range of important topics focused on keeping our schools, staff, and students safe. Opportunities like this allow us to stay prepared, share knowledge, and continue building strong coordination between agencies.

We are always grateful for the chance to meet with Valentine ISD and strengthen our working relationships when it comes to school safety and, most importantly, the safety of our kids.

We were also so generously treated to a luncheon with the staff following the meeting, and we are truly grateful to the Valentine ISD staff for their hospitality and the delicious meal.
