Community Announcement: September 3, 2026

FORT DEFIANCE, AZ – We understand that managing medication needs can be challenging, especially when the Pharmacy is closed. However, we kindly ask that you refrain from using the TMC Emergency Room or Fast Track for routine medication refill pickup.
The Emergency Room is reserved for critical, life-threatening situations, ensuring that those in urgent need receive the care they require. Routine refills for chronic or acute conditions are best handled during regular Pharmacy hours.
In some cases, the ER can provide emergency refills for critical, non-controlled medications if there’s an immediate health risk. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
How to get a prescription refill:
1. Call in your refills at 928-729-8341 or toll-free at 1-877-432-6775
2. Be prepared to provide your chart number and the prescription (Rx) number to our Audiocare line.
3. Audiocare will confirm that your refill is fillable and provide a date when your refill will be available. Refills typically take about 3 days.
4. Pick-up your refill at the Refill Pharmacy (located by the east main entrance of TMC) during the following hours (Please use the emergency department entrance to access the Main and Refill Pharmacy after 5:00pm Mon-Fri and on Saturdays):
• Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday: 9am - 6pm
• Thursday: 10am - 6pm
• Saturday: 10am -2pm
• Sunday & Holidays – CLOSED
Reminders:
• Please plan ahead in requesting your refills. Monitor the refill status on your prescription bottle label to see how many refills are left before you run low.
• Make Audiocare work for you! Patients can start using Audiocare and receive reminders when their medication is running low, so they know when to call to request a refill.
• Once medications are refilled, patients have 7 days to pick up refills.

For new prescriptions, patients may visit the Main Pharmacy during the same hours listed above. For more information, visit fdihb.org/services/pharmacy.

The Dental Departments at Tséhootsooí Medical Center and Nahata' Dziil Health Center partnered with the Give Kids a Smile (GKAS) nationwide movement. This year, we went out to Kin Dah Łichí'í' Ólta' school to capture the successful event. The dental GKAS team provided dental screenings, oral health education, and fluoride treatments to 120 students! This is our fifth year serving our Diné community schools. If your school would like to be included, reach out to Valerie Long, RDH, at 928.729.8907.

Thank you to our sponsors, Give Kids A Smile (GKAS), the American Dental Association Foundation, Henry Shein, and Colgate-Palmolive.

Fuel for Learning:
Eating healthy is important at every age, but especially for growing children. According to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, there is a strong connection between nutrition and learning.

Good nutrition helps children stay focused, maintain energy, improve memory, and provides essential nutrients that fuel the body and the brain for school.

Here are some tips from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s MyPlate guidelines to help our students get the essential nutrients that fuel a successful school year.
• Make half your plate fruits and vegetables for vitamins, minerals, and fiber.
• Choose whole grains to provide lasting energy.
• Include lean protein to support growth and help build strong muscles.
• Add low-fat or fat-free dairy for calcium and vitamin D to help build strong bones and teeth.

Access to balanced, nutritious meals supports children’s health, growth, and learning development. Helping students meet their nutrition needs is an important step towards supporting their success in and out of the classroom.

Thank you to the FDIHB Public Health Nutrition Department for educating us on this segment of Back to School Health Tips. 🍎 ✏️🚸🎒
