Today marks the 81st anniversary of Victory over Japan Day, the moment that ended World War II. Following Japan’s surrender aboard USS Missouri on Sept. 2, 1945, the United States led the Allies in the occupation and rehabilitation of the Japanese state. Between 1945 and 1952, the U.S. occupying forces, led by General Douglas A. MacArthur, enacted widespread military, political, economic, and social reforms.

U.S. Army Maj. Jesse E. Nagle, Capt. Jennifer L. Wain, Capt. Jonathan D. O’Connor, and Sgt. Sebastian E. Fara, all with the 3rd Battalion, 112th Field Artillery Regiment, 44th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, travelled to the Republic of Estonia as part of Military Reserve Exchange Program 2026 Estonia.

U.S. Army Soldiers and Air Force Airmen with the 21st Weapons of Mass Destruction-Civil Support Team, New Jersey National Guard, passed an Army North-mandated training proficiency evaluation at the FAA William J. Hughes Technical Center at Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey, Aug. 20, 2026. The 21st WMD-CST identifies chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear substances; assess and advises civil authorities on response measures to man-made or natural disasters.

This Wing Wednesday, we are highlighting the 141st Air Refueling Squadron, 108th Wing, New Jersey Air National Guard, which conducted aerial refueling operations with F‑35A Lightning II aircraft from the 115th Fighter Wing, Wisconsin Air National Guard, over the Rib Mountain refueling track on Aug. 5. The mission offloaded forty thousand pounds of fuel and enhanced pilot proficiency, operational readiness, and total force integration between Air National Guard units.

U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Andy J. Rivera and Sgt. Timothy F. Sweeney, both combat medics with 2nd Battalion, 254th Regiment, reenlist and Sweeney is promoted to the rank of staff sergeant at the National Guard Training Center in Sea Girt, New Jersey, Aug. 12 2026.

The ceremony was conducted by Lt. Col. Thomas R. Weaver, commander of the 2nd Battalion, 254th Regiment.
