MAG 49 "Marine Spotlight"

Lance Corporal Lucas James Wallen of Marine Aircraft Group 49 Headquarters has been chosen as the MAG 49 Spotlight Marine because of his upstanding milestones and intense motivation as a young leader in the Corps.
Prior to joining the United States Marine Corps, LCpI Wallen was born in Chicago, Illinois and raised in Yorkville, Illinois. Wallen graduated from high school in 2017, and immediately entered the USMC poolee program. Initially, LCpl Wallen was rejected because of physical capabilities and weight requirements. However, approaching the program with persistent drive, LCpl Wallen worked extremely hard and went through strenuous workouts to drop enough weight to continue on his journey to become a Marine. A total weight of 175 lbs is noted to be one of LCpl Wallen's massive milestones. Entering the poolee program at 330 lbs and decreasing to 175 lbs by graduation of Basic Training. While in basic training Wallen also suffered a stress injury to his left tibia which extended his training 3 months past his initial graduation date. Therefore, graduating Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego was Wallen's most memorable moment so far in the Corps. LCpl Wallen states that, "I never seen a way out of boot camp but my family kept me going, and my recruiter was one of the few who believed in me."
LCpl Wallen has future goals of joining law enforcement and becoming a State Trooper because of his hunger to drive and help others. He also has plans on a second enlistment and furthering his career in the United States Marine Corps.

LCpl Wallen has a message for those who are in the midst of hardships and obstacles that need motivation.

"The only person that is going to actually do it and care about it as much as you is YOU. Dig deep down and find it in yourself. Its all on you!"

Just a question for your unit, I live in Matawan Nj and your aircraft fly over my house 2 or 3 times a week, and we love it. Just wondering where they go on these flights if you can tell us. As a former Army OH-6 loach driver I enjoy the weekly flyovers Are they just staying current or actual training missions? Thanks for any information

Good afternoon! Bit of an odd question, I know, but I was wondering if y'all have any kind of Joint Service MCMAP program at all? I'm an Airman and martial artist new to the base, and I've heard of other joint bases here and there operating such programs. Thanks for any info. Gung-ho.
