As we embark on the “long weekend”, let’s not forget Memorial Day is dedicated to the over one million men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of our country. During the weekend’s celebrations, please pause to recognize their sacrifice and also to raise a glass to our brothers and sisters currently deployed around the globe.

“While a bright future beckoned, they freely gave their lives and fondest hopes for us and our allies, that we might learn from them courage in peace to spend our lives making a better world for others."
- Inscription inside Harvard University Memorial Church

If you honor anyone specific this weekend, we welcome you to add their name as a comment below.

Wishing 1st Brigade, and our family and friends, a Happy Spring! As many of you virtually gather this weekend for unique Passover and Easter Celebrations, please take the time to thank your families for their continued support as you continue your services as “Twice the Citizen.”
During this unusual time many are feeling the stress of isolation and uncertainty. While those serving in Public Safety, Healthcare and other essential services, are often facing increased stress and fear as they try to continue working. Please remember what MSG Martino spoke about in our last MRT course – find the things in your life you can control and continue to seek out the joy life offers, sometimes in the most unexpected places. If at any time you need to reach out, Branch and Brigade leadership is always just a phone-call away.
We’re looking forward to seeing everyone in formation soon.

They are supporting our fellow citizens in our time of greatest need.

They are going to save lives.

Be proud of our team, these Soldiers, and what has been done in less than two weeks. It's eye-popping.

1st Brigade Command message coming out through Branch channels tomorrow. Until then here's some additonal guidance from the CAR. Remain vigilant, self isolate to keep you and your families healthy, and wash your hands!

#alwaysfirst #strikehard #readiness

Update: LTG Charles D Luckey has new guidance for commanders and our Soldiers

Unless you get clear authority to conduct a battle assembly you're not doing it. We need to avoid congregating and prevent the spread of the COVID-19.

We'll make sure at the end of the day we'll get the RST policies in place the right way to make sure we're going to compensate our Soldiers.

This guidance is current as of March 19, 2020.

03/18/2020
Chief of Army Reserve

See LTG Luckey's message to the Force. To reinforce the Chief of the Army Reserve's message - we will not have BA until further advised. In the mean time protect yourself and your families by being diligent with social distancing, hand washing and maintaining your personal health. We need to ensure our continued readiness, if and when we are called for whatever our assigned mission. Stay healthy and stay vigilant.
#AlwaysFirst #Readiness #StrikeHard

UPDATE FOR CLARIFICATION:

Battle assemblies through the end of March are suspended. This gives commanders authority to take appropriate actions to ensure the health, safety and welfare of Soldiers, families and communities.

Check with your chain of command for the latest guidance on Battle Assembly schedules and training exercises and any rescheduled training.

We are not going to erode readiness, but we are going to protect this force to project readiness in the future.

Certain units may need to continue operations, but that will be decided on a case-by-case basis.

Wash your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds. It's absolutely essential you maintain your distance to combat the spread of this virus.

One Team - let leadership know if anyone is violating that trust.

We all have teammates at all echelons of America’s Army Reserve to ensure we understand our SHARP/EO responsibilities.

We must let leadership know if we, or a teammate, become a victim.

Do not be concerned about retaliation becuase any leader who retaliates will have to face significant challenges not just with the Army but with me.

Seasons Greetings 1/ATD Soldiers, Families and Friends!

With the Holiday Season in full swing and 2019 rapidly coming to a close, we wanted to pause to thank you and your families for all that you do in service to our Nation! Together we accomplished quite a lot in 2019. Thank you to our Soldiers; for the countless hours you’ve spent preparing yourselves and your teams. Thank you to our families; for the countless hours you’ve endured while your loved one was away at training or on deployment. Thank you to our friends; for the pets walked, children watched and mail picked up. Thank you for everything you all do to ensure our Soldiers are able to perform their duty when asked. Some of you chose to join the service, others married into a military lifestyle and still others just happened to live nearby and want to help out. Regardless of how you came to be a part of the 1st Brigade, Atlantic Training Division family; Thank you!

We know 1st Brigade is excited to ring in 2020 and all the excitement a new year offers. But for now, simply enjoy the downtime the holiday season offers to recharge with family and friends! As Hal Borland said, “Year's end is neither an end nor a beginning but a going on, with all the wisdom that experience can instill in us.”
Happy Holidays!

Happy Thanksgiving 1st Brigade Soldiers, Families and Friends!

Let us raise a glass as we gather with our friends and family: to those we are blessed to feast with this year; those who support us near and far as we as fill our roles as “Twice the Citizen;" and those whose unwavering support, despite our many deployments and missed family milestones, allow us to always stand ready for our Nation’s call.

To our Troops celebrating Thanksgiving in makeshift banquet tables around the world, and their families enduring an empty seat at the table – THANK YOU! You are a tangible reminder of the sacrifice our Soldiers and families endure every day. We wish you all the best in the completion of your missions and a safe and speedy return home.

Happy Thanksgiving and Safe Travels!

Let us take a moment this weekend to honor all current and past members of the Armed Forces. As the 1st Brigade, Atlantic Division Command Team, we are proud of those standing, and who have stood, in our ranks; volunteers who chose to put on the uniform, pick up a rifle and answer when the Nation calls. America’s military continues to globally deploy and we will continue to ensure they are always ready!

We want to personally thank the members of 1st BDE for your dedication to America and the sacrifices you continue to make for our Nation. We would be remiss in not also recognizing the family and friends who support our troops through the many deployments, training exercises and Battle Assembly weekends; without whom this job would be that much more difficult.

“The true Soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him.” GK Chesterton

Happy Veteran’s Day

18 years ago our world profoundly changed. Most current members of 1st Brigade were still early in our military careers. We joined during very different times and were forever changed by the events of 9/11/01. That day shaped us as Soldiers and changed many of our career trajectories. Now, as new recruits join our formations, many have no personal memory of that day. It is a day that only lives in history books and the stories of others. These recruits are choosing to join an Army which has been at war their entire lifetime. It is that same Army which entrusted us with the opportunity to lead, mentor, shape and grow these courageous young men and women. And it is that same Army that demands we prepare them to go where and when they are needed.

1st Brigade - just a quick pause from the many rainy Labor Day Celebrations happening across our Brigade. We hope this finds you enjoying time with your families, celebrating all your hard work over the past year.

For those impacted by Hurricane Dorian, particularly Soldiers from our newest Branch at Fort Jackson, SC - stay safe! We hope the storm passes y'all by uneventfully.

This weekend marks the end of Summer for many and the end of the 2019 Exercise season for 1st Brigade. It also offers us a beginning as we prepare for the start of the 2020 school, fiscal and exercise year. Let us capitalize on these renewed opportunities and always ensure we're ready for whatever we encounter.

Happy Labor Day,
