Congratulations to Headquarters Battery, 1st Battalion, 194th Field Artillery soldier Sgt. Hannah Sievert for completing Basic Leaders Course (BLC) on the Commandant’s List and with honors! BLC is an intensive course and the first of leadership training where soldiers learn the fundamental skills needed to lead small teams.
Sievert, a weapons locating radar operator (13R) from Maxwell, Iowa, earned the Distinguished Leadership award for outstanding academic performance and exemplifying leadership qualities and the core Army values.
When asked why she joined the Iowa Army National Guard, Sievert reflected, “during my junior year of high school. I felt it was what the Lord was calling me to do— as though a significant part of what God was looking to do in my life lay in the military.”
Sievert's military experience has helped shape how she approaches civilian life, sharing, “In civilian life, it's easy to fall into a simple routine and forget what you're capable of until you put the uniform on and step back into that military mindset— the resiliency, the value in structure and discipline, the necessity for trust, teamwork, and consistent communication. These are just a few of the skills I attribute to the military for success in my college educational journey thus far.”
Finally, Sievert highlighted some of those who have supported her, “Both the Lord God and my family, especially my dad, have always been the biggest sources of support and continue to be even today.”
