🎒🚌 SCHOOL IS BACK IN SESSION! 🚌🎒

As students head back to school, the Webster County Sheriff’s Office reminds everyone to slow down, stay alert, and watch for school buses and children.

When you see a school bus with its amber warning lights flashing, reduce your speed to no more than 20 MPH. When the bus stops, its red lights are flashing, and the stop arm is extended, you MUST come to a complete stop and remain stopped until the stop arm is retracted and the bus resumes movement.

Passing a stopped school bus is not just dangerous: it carries serious consequences under Iowa law.

Under Iowa Code §321.372, a first offense for illegally passing a school bus is a simple misdemeanor punishable by a fine of $345 to $930, imprisonment for up to 30 days, or both.

Please remember: those flashing red lights are there to protect our kids.

Take a few extra seconds. Put down the phone. Slow down. Watch for school buses and expect children to be nearby.

Today, we celebrate Sergeant Mike Kenyon as he reaches his 20-year anniversary with the Webster County Sheriff’s Office.

For two decades, Mike has dedicated countless nights, weekends, and holidays to serving and protecting the citizens of Webster County. His commitment to public safety has meant sacrificing countless hours that could have been spent with his family.
