The weather took a bizarre turn last night…just kidding it’s still hot like the surface of the sun with a million percent humidity, but doesn’t that look refreshing? Please continue to use the precautions we’ve been talking about all week as the heat advisory continues throughout the day and temperatures stay high. If you must be outside for training or work, take frequent breaks for cooling off and hydration and remember to monitor those around you. Some early symptoms of heat-related illness include dizziness, headache, nausea, unsteady walk, fatigue and muscle cramps. Also, we have an Army-issued chart that indicates your possible level of dehydration by displaying the wide spectrum of urine colorations. Please just drink all your water and don’t make us show that to you. No one needs that in their 2020 scrapbook.

Don’t forget that today is the day for Fort Drum FMWR's Freebie Friday pizza giveaway. The line opens at 12 Noon on 10th Mountain Division Drive and it's first come, first served! This is open to all DoD ID card holders. You must be wearing a mask during the pick-up.

No big updates for this morning. Stay cool and as soon as we have changes we will share them right here and on our website: https://home.army.mil/drum/index.php/about/Garrison/public-affairs/coronavirus-update

If you have any questions please drop them in the comments and we’ll work to get the answer.

There’s a heat advisory in effect for our area through tomorrow, with temperatures climbing into the 90s today and feeling even hotter. All our tips from yesterday still apply: stay indoors if you can, stay hydrated and wear loose, lightweight clothing. Also keep car safety in mind. After you turn off that beautiful AC and leave your vehicle it takes just 10 minutes for a car to become 20 degrees hotter than the outside temperature. Never leave a child or pet unattended in a vehicle. Look before you lock; make it a routine to check the backseat before you leave especially on those hectic days. You can find more information about preventing heat injuries in vehicles here: https://bit.ly/2Ob0hje

Tomorrow Fort Drum FMWR is hosting their Freebie Friday, giving away 200 whole pizzas starting at 12 Noon on 10th Mountain Division Drive! This is open to all DoD ID card holders. You must be wearing a mask during the pick-up.

This is a great OT activity for the kiddos. Working on those fine motor, finger strength skills with a little bit of sensory play too!

👌JELLO RESCUE👅
Only one of the funnest tase safe play ideas ever! 🤗 Any type of rescue situation makes my kids feel like superheroes and this just that 😂. Literally stuck animals that they dug out of “thick water”. You can imagine their excitement! One thing to consider ➡️. This isn’t regular jello (even though thats what I called it😜). It’s plain gelatin that doesn’t contain sugar. You can certainly make this activity with regular jello but it will be suuuuper sticky due to the sugar😅. By using plain gelatin, you avoid the stickiness and it taste disgusting. Your little ones will most likely spit it out as soon as they try it😝.

❣️Have you seen all of the fun things happening on @tagfromtheheart with the Tase Safe theme? So many great ideas have been shared already! Make sure to tag me and Anya @montessorifromtheheart in your taste safe play ideas this week ❤️ #tagfromtheheart.

👉🏼YOU’LL NEED:
-Gelatin
-Animals or anything you want your kids to find
👉🏼INSTRUCTIONS:
1️⃣Make clear gelatin following the instructions on the box. Use only 3/4 of the recommended water to make the gelatin. This will make it more stiff and harder to rescue the items.
2️⃣Insert the toys in the gelatin.
3️⃣Place in the refrigerator until it fully sets.
4️⃣Remove from the refrigerator and have your child rescue the items.
💡Gelatin/jello is a choking hazard. Make sure to supervise your children at all times during this activity. #mothercould #howto

Such a neat idea!🎨

🧽WIPEABLE COLORING BOARD🎨
Keep watching, there’s a car paint shop too 🚙🚗. I’ve been wanting to make a makeup board for my girls for the longest time 💄. I’ve seen them everywhere but noticed you could only paint them once. I covered the cardboard with tape and BAM, you can paint them over and over again🤩. It’s like giant erasable coloring pages! You can also clean up the areas you pained outside the lines. Makes it perfect for makeup corrections 💋😉. What would you draw for your little one?

Find more recycle play ides on @recycleandplay and #recycleandplay 💚

👉🏼YOU’LL NEED:
-Cardboard
-Pencil/pen
-Black marker
-Clear packing tape
-Scissors
-Paint
👉🏼INSTRUCTIONS:
1️⃣Draw a large scale of any shape you want on the cardboard using a pen or pencil
2️⃣Once you are happy with the drawing, trace it using a black marker
3️⃣Cover the cardboard with a layer of clear packing tape. Align them perfectly so that there aren’t ant open cracks. Secure the tape on the backside of the board
4️⃣Use paint, markers, crayons, anything you want to color with and you can wipe it off using a baby wipe or water on a paper towel #mothercould

Early Childhood Educator Tips, Ideas, and Resources

Helping your child develop and enhance those fine motor skills can be super easy and fun at the same time!

FINE MOTOR SKILLS
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This is such a simple activity that is not only engaging but beneficial for those little hands 🖐🏼
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Fine motor is one of the most important skills children can develop competently in the early years that will set them up for school and life as a whole.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Particularly within this generation of tech savvy kids, we are noticing a huge lack of fine motor skills compared to previous years. Tapping iPads or iPhones does not support use of the whole hand or coordination of hand and fingers.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Provide children with activities that will work their finger and hand muscles, wrist flexibility, hand-eye coordination, and fluent hand movement.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
There are so many ideas to increase children’s fine motor skills at home. This sticker activity is cheap and easy to set up. Yet here we see Harper using pincer grip with her pointer finger and thumb to peel the sticker, hand eye coordination to place it within the desired position on paper, coordinating both hands (helper hand and working hand), and finger strength to press down the sticker firmly.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Check out more simple fine motor activities you can provide in the classroom or at home by downloading the ‘play to pencil’ resource from the website, link in bio.
