The school year has officially begun, and this year looks very different from years past. It’s important to take precautions to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19. If you’re a TRICARE beneficiary at the Guthrie Clinic, and your child is experiencing symptoms associated with COVID-19, be sure to keep your child home and call our appointment line to speak to a triage nurse. If your child has been sent home from school for experiencing symptoms, call our appointment line to speak with a nurse. Check out the graphic below to learn more about the screening and testing process to meet your child's requirements to head back to school.

We are going to be using MS Teams. It's easy and free!!

You will need to download the Microsoft Teams app onto your phone or computer. Once you do that, simply create an account, and let me know what email you used to create that account.

Fort Drum Army Community Service

Good morning everyone! We know back to school is looking different for everyone this year. One resilience skill we have learned from life in recent months is to focus less on what we can’t control, and more on what we can. And what can we control right now? We can continue to stay informed and practice proven safety measures, and encourage our children to do the same. We want to wish all the students and parents a good first week.
Remember If you have questions that your school can’t answer feel free to reach out to our School Liaison Officer at 315-772-3214.

Fort Drum AER will be offering assistance for home schooling and remote education, please see their original post for additional guidance.

Please see our updated Remote Learning Category of Assistance.
Let me give further guidance as well:
The purpose of the category is to relieve stress on those military families who have been thrust into a “Hybrid combination of Resident Schooling and Stay at home Virtual Schooling” or if given an option by the sanctioned and or affiliated school district to enroll in “Full Time Virtual Schooling” and must pay out of pocket for supplies and materials that the sanctioned and or affiliated school cannot supply.

Parents who Home School their children but are not sanctioned or affiliated with a school district do not qualify for this assistance.

To apply for this assistant we would need a letter from the sanctioned or affiliated school district stating that the student is in fact enrolled in the school, what option type the student is being educated under (Hybrid or Full Virtual), a full school supply list and or a syllabus of required technology items needed, of those required items and supplies, please have the school breakdown which items the school provides and which items the parents must provide. AER can assist with the items the parents must provide.

Please contact our office directly to apply and or receive further guidance. Each case will be based on it’s own merits as to whether it’s processed as a loan, grant or a combination of loan/grant.

EFMP Sensory Bin

The Fort Drum Exceptional Family Member Program introduces our “Sensory Video of the Week”. This video shows you and your children how to make a quick and easy Sensory Bin with materials already in your home!

A Sensory Bin can be used to stimulate the senses:

Visual (sight)
Auditory (hearing)
Tactile (touch)
Olfactory (smell)
Gustation (taste)

Ask your child to sort some of the materials in the bin, or have them go searching for an egg to find a surprise inside! The materials and the possibilities of a sensory bin are endless!

Have you and your child made a sensory bin before? Share a picture in the comments!
