Let us raise our glasses and remember...#NeverForget #RangersLeadTheWay #OperationGothicSerpant #BattleofMogadishu

On October 3, 1993, Rangers conducted a daring daylight raid with other special operations units in which several special operations helicopters were shot down. For nearly 18 hours, the task force delivered devastating firepower, killing an estimated 600 enemy combatants in what many was the fiercest ground combat since Vietnam.

18 service members made the ultimate sacrifice in accomplishing their mission. Their courage and selfless service will never be forgotten.

Welcome Home Ceremonies :: Fort Drum

REDEPLOYMENT UPDATE for families of returning #Commando Soldiers:

- Please continue to check vFRG and the Fort Drum website for changes or updates to welcome home ceremonies. Ceremony dates are not considered sensitive information, and have been approved for release.

- Do not share any other information that may violate OPSEC on the internet, over the phone, or otherwise.

- If you do not have access to vFRG, please contact your SFRG leader or your service member.

- If you are not the Soldier's SFRG contact, or do not know who your Soldier listed as his or her SFRG contact, please get in touch with your Soldier or SFRG leader directly. WE ARE NOT ABLE TO VERIFY OR PROVIDE THAT INFORMATION FOR SECURITY REASONS.

- Photos from #WelcomeHome ceremonies will be posted into a running album on the 2BCT #Flickr page:
https://www.flickr.com/photos/drum10thmountain/collections/72157632518238713/

One more time for the people in the back...

SENSITIVE INFORMATION VS. PUBLIC INFORMATION EXPLAINED:
- The Army announces a general time frame of departure for deployments ("This fall," "Late 2018"). That information is not considered sensitive. It has been approved for public release. Specific dates of departure ARE considered sensitive.

- Posts and comments on social media detailing an exact number of days when a specific service member will leave or return are considered sensitive information. A comment from John Doe Sr. stating, “My son will be home in 8 days!” provides context that was not previously available to the public. Anyone with access to that comment or post on social media can easily determine the service member’s identity, and even compromise operational security. That service member’s date of travel then becomes publicly accessible information because a family member provided the following context:
1. “in 8 days” (explicitly stated)
2. A specific service member (easily deducible)
3. from a specific unit (public information)
4. will be travelling (explicitly implied)
5. from a country where the unit is deployed, which is already public information. (public information)

Without this context, the only publicly released information is:
1. The unit is deployed. (public information)
2. The unit is deployed to this country, and maybe even a region or base. (public information)
3. The unit will be returning within a general time frame. (public information)
4. The redeployment ceremonies will occur on these dates and times - which are subject to change and updated periodically. (public information)

Even if John Doe Sr. only said “I can’t wait for SGT John Doe Jr. to get home,” the public now knows the name of a specific service member within the unit.

- Welcome Home ceremony dates are not sensitive. If the information is posted on an official .mil website that means it has been approved for public release. The upcoming 2BCT Welcome Home ceremony dates have been released by division, cleared through higher headquarters for public release to the Fort Drum website, then shared on this page. The ceremony schedule only includes welcome home ceremonies. The ceremony schedule DOES NOT include not flight dates, times, arrival, or departure schedules, manifests, or names of when specific soldiers will be travelling. The schedule simply provides the time and date when the ceremonies will occur. There is no context for specific travel timelines or personnel identification. Comments from family members on social media can provide context for a specific service member’s identity or travel timeline.

For OPSEC, there was an issue with a family member posting a comment on the 2BCT Facebook which presented a potential OPSEC threat. The comment has been deleted. An infographic was posted to mitigate further OPSEC violations and explain in detail exactly what went wrong. The infographic is attached.

Northern New York Drunk Driving Prevention Team: If you are not aware of this service, it is a great service in which DOD volunteers will drive you and your vehicle home for free if you have been drinking. The service is only open to DOD members, and you must have a DOD ID to make use of it. The service also only takes people home. It does not take them to another bar or location to continue drinking. Their number is (315) 775-8813.

If you are interested in volunteering as either a driver or a dispatcher, you can register and sign up for dates on their website. When you volunteer you earn 10 hours of community service for every night you volunteer.

Fort Drum Medical Activity

The Fort Drum MEDDAC will host a town hall on Thurs. Jan. 10, 2019 to from 5
p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Fort Drum multipurpose auditorium (MPA). If you are
unable to attend you are invited to tune in to the live broadcast via
Facebook live from our page at
www.facebook.com/fortdrummeddac/

Who: Fort Drum MEDDAC
Date: January 10, 2019
Time: 5pm - 6 pm
Purpose: Address Patient Concerns with Samaritan & Humana

Live Broadcast: www.facebook.com/fortdrummeddac/

As of Jan. 1, 2019, Fort Drum MEDDAC beneficiaries receiving care with our network providers will no longer be referred to 10 out of the 44 network specialists with the Physicians and Allied Health Professionals of the
Samaritan Medical Practice, P.C. This will impact new or changed referrals only. Patients with ongoing referrals within the Samaritan network will still see their current specialist until their approved course of care is completed unless a new referral or a change in referral is required. New referrals will still be processed with other network providers as needed.

The Defense Health Agency contracts with Humana Military and the insurance provider tells us who is in their network of care. As the success of the off-post healthcare model is integral to our readiness and the care of our Soldiers, Family members and retirees, we will continue to analyze the situation in order to mitigate any quality and access to care issues.

It's important to note that not all specialists in the local area belong to the Samaritan Medical Practice. Only specific providers who fall under the Samaritan Medical Practice are affected by the drop in coverage. If you have questions about a specific specialty, you can contact Humana military at 1-800-444-5445.

We understand the frustration involved with changing specialty providers and ask our beneficiaries to remain patient as Humana Military works to solidify participating partnerships with healthcare providers in the area. Humana Military is currently working on developing relationships with local and surrounding area providers to help bridge the gap locally through partnerships.

We are committed to ensuring the highest level of care to our Soldiers, Families and retirees. We will continue to provide referrals to other providers within the network which will help maintain access to care. In the meantime, Humana is working with other local healthcare providers to ensure there is adequate local and regional coverage to help mitigate any access to care issues.

We will continue to update our beneficiaries.

Sincerely,

Your Healthcare Team
