Important: Changes to How Monthly Housing Allowance Rates are Calculated for Hybrid Courses

For all terms starting on or after August 15, 2019, VA will certify all courses which combine both classroom instruction and distance learning, commonly known as hybrid courses, as in-residence training.

What does this mean to me?

Hybrid courses contain some element of on-site classroom training, they are not considered “solely through distance learning” and you will receive a monthly housing stipend based on the resident rate where you take the majority of your resident training for terms starting on or after August 15, 2019.

• Remember, your Rate of Pursuit must be greater than 50 percent to qualify for the MHA and is based on your Chapter 33 benefit level. For the current MHA rates click here: https://bddy.me/2TtkuT1

What if my hybrid course started before August 15, 2019?

This change is not retroactive and terms beginning before August 15, 2019 will not be amended to account for these changes.

If you have any questions or need additional assistance please contact the Education Call Center at 1-888-442-4551 between 7 a.m. - 6 p.m. Central Time, Monday-Friday, and a call center agent will review your file.
