Yesterday morning, 1st Platoon tested the Troop’s new STEEDs, which are electronically powered wagons for dismounted elements to use to move loads over distance. The STEEDs are combat multipliers that help our dismounted elements be even more lethal while on patrol.

LIFT TO GLORY!!
Blackhawk Troopers helped 1-89 CAV win the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division powerlifting competition! 1SG Ganley, SSG Rogers, SGT Sanford, SGT Schroeder, and SFC Maynard crushed it! There is no substitute for victory!
The Troop’s big individual wins:
- STRONGEST MAN IN THE BRIGADE - SSG Rogers, 1500lbs
- #2 Strongest Man Pound for Pound: SSG Rogers, 6.37lbs moved per lb of body weight
- #3 Strongest Man Pound for Pound: 1SG Ganley, 6.1lbs moved per lb of body weight
- #2 Squat in the Brigade: SSG Rogers, 505lbs
- #3 Squat in the Brigade: SGT Sanford, 500lbs
- #1 Bench Press in the Brigade: SSG Rogers, 395lbs

On Tuesday, Blackhawk Troopers trained the essential skill of anti-armor engagements by firing the powerful M3E1 Multipurpose Anti-Armor Anti-Personnel Weapons System (MAAWS), better known as the Carl Gustaf. This lethal weapon system fires 84mm rounds that provides tremendous combat power to our Scouts on the battlefield!

Duty Day CANCELLED for Friday 18 NOV 2022:
The National Weather Service is predicting that the first snow storm of the season is going kick off late tonight and be a multi-day event. You should be prepared to shelter in place and stay off the roads for the duration of the Lake Effect Snow Warning that begins tonight and extends into Sunday.

Due to the forecasted inclement weather on Friday, 18 NOV 2022, the Garrison Commander has issued a DO NOT REPORT ORDER. Unless notified otherwise by their chain of command/supervisor, Fort Drum non-emergency/non-essential uniformed military personnel and civilians will not report to duty/work. Emergency and Mission Essential personnel will report unless notified otherwise by their chain of command/supervisor.
The Fort Drum Welcome Center at 4412 Camp Swift Rd. remains open for new arrivals (Soldiers).
All agencies in Clark Hall are closed and all previously scheduled activities and appointments must be rescheduled.
Child and Youth Services (Child Development Centers, School Age Center) are closed.
The Guthrie Ambulatory Healthcare Clinic, all troop clinics, OB/GYN Clinic at Samaritan, and all dental clinics are closed.
All gyms are closed.
The Commissary is closed.
Call your AAFES business to check if it is open.
We urge all members of the Fort Drum community to exercise caution when traveling and practice good winter-weather safety. All Government Vehicles follow Road Condition Guidance identified in Appendix C (Road Condition Reference Chart) of Fort Drum Regulation 525-27.

Last week, the Troop’s Mortar Section executed Mortar Gunnery along with Alpine’s and Crazy Horse’s mortar sections. They hung a ton of rounds and honed their proficiency as our rapid indirect fire support!

While in the field for Mountain Peak, we had the opportunity to promote two Troopers to the rank of Sergeant! Sergeant is the first rank in the Noncommissioned Officer Corps, and reaching this rank is a major milestone in a Soldier’s career. 1SG Ganley kicked off the promotion ceremony with the NCO Creed, underlining the importance of this event. SGT Fuentes and SGT Lee worked hard for this achievement, and we look forward to their further achievements in this role of greater responsibility!

MOUNTAIN PEAK!
The Troop recently completed Mountain Peak, the Brigade’s culminating field training exercise prior to heading to the Joint Readiness Training Center at Fort Polk, Louisiana. During this exercise, the Troop got after a variety of reconnaissance and security tasks, and we had the opportunity to train alongside partners from Beast Company, 41st Engineer Battalion, 2nd Battalion 87th Infantry Regiment, and Dark Knights, 41st BEB, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division. Mountain Peak was a challenging exercise, and our lessons learned made us a stronger team!

BLC is the first step that Soldiers take to become Noncommissioned Officers and joining the ”backbone of the Army” - it is a huge step in a Soldier’s career. 2nd Platoon got after it this week with Delta "Darkhorse" Troop, 1-89 CAV during the FORSCOM level Phillip A. Connelly Cup competition! The Platoon split into sections, with one establishing a screen to provide early warning and reaction time to Darkhorse and the other serving as OPFOR. 2nd Platoon used all of their assets to challenge and support our Darkhorse teammates as they crushed the Connelly Cup!

This week, 1st Platoon and the Troop HQ trained alongside our teammates from Dark Knights, 41st BEB, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division’s Military Intelligence Troop. Together, they inserted by air and conducted reconnaissance and security operations, leveraging Dark Knight’s cutting-edge capabilities and Blackhawk’s Scout fundamentals to maximize our abilities to work as a multifunctional, combined arms information collection team. Training together like this keeps us ready to fight and win on the complex modern battlefield - anywhere, anytime.

Last Thursday, Blackhawk Troop participated in 1st Squadron, 89th Cavalry Regiment’s Organizational Day, which was held jointly with 6th Squadron, 6th Cavalry, our fellow cavalrymen from 10th Combat Aviation Brigade!
Blackhawk Troop took the day’s championship in dodgeball and also took the championship (albeit disputed) in softball. The event was a great day of fun, food, sports, and camaraderie for Troopers and families.
