Congrats to all the newly-minted Spur Holders in Blackhawk Troop! We had over 40 Soldiers join the Order of the Silver Spur today!

The Order of the Spur is a Cavalry tradition within the United States Army. Troopers serving with Cavalry units are inducted into the Order of the Spur after successfully completing a "Spur Ride."The spurs are to be worn with the military uniform during Squadron or Regimental ceremonies and events or as designated by the Cavalry unit commander. Silver spurs represent having completed the Spur Ride and within the tradition, silver spurs and gold spurs hold a similar relationship for the Cavalry as the Expert Infantryman Badge hold in the U.S. Army Infantry. There is no Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) requirement for the Order of the Spur and the order is open to members of foreign militaries serving with U.S. Cavalry units!

Stay tuned for more pictures of the 2019 1-89 Spur Ride! "Ready Now!"

Here we go, #Commandos. It's the first big storm of the year. For anyone who just moved to the North Country:
- Take it SLOW.
- Remember to clear ALL of the snow from your vehicle before driving, because it can create a hazard for other drivers.
- Keep emergency supplies in your vehicle, like a blanket, shovel, roadside emergency kit, and snacks (yes, snacks).
- Seriously, slow down. This is a blizzard, not a drag race.

5 Steps to Prepare Your Car for Winter

Public Service Announcement:

Blackhawk Troopers & Family,

With the pending Winter Storm Warning (6-10 inches of snow expected throughout Monday afternoon and night) now is as good a time as ever to start preparing your home and car for the lovely North Country Winter. Check out some quick tips below!

Also throughout the winter there is always a possibility work will be delayed or closed as bad weather rolls in. Word will come out on this page as well as through the chain of command when these events occur, but one of the best ways to get minute-by-minute notification is through the Fort Drum Road Conditions Hotline at (315) 772-3786. This will give you an overview of delays and closures and road conditions on post updated as soon as Division makes work delay/cancellation decisions.

We hope this helps! Stay safe! ⛄️❄️💨

Protect your vehicle and passengers in the sleet, snow and ice.
