Do you have a daughter in grades 7-9 who is interested in Math and Science? Check out this post from 10th Combat Aviation Brigade for details on a great opportunity!

Cornell University is offering an opportunity for girls in grades 7-9 who are interested in science and math. Selection for the 500 slots will be through lottery. Registration for the lottery is open March 7-11. A brief description from the website is below as well as the link to the website where you can view the brochure.

Expanding Your Horizons (EYH) is a one-day conference for 7th–9th grade girls. The 7th & 8th grade girls each participate in three workshops organized by Cornell students and faculty, while 9th grade girls participate in two extended workshops. The goals of the conference are to stimulate the participants’ interest in math and science through these hands-on activities, to provide them with female scientist role models, and to foster awareness of opportunities in math and science-related careers.

Although the focus of the EYH conference is to provide hands-on learning experiences for girls, we also organize a special session for accompanying adults to give them information on educational and career opportunities involving science, math, and engineering.

Other highlights of EYH include a keynote speech by a prominent woman scientist and a display of science books, resources, and games that participants and their parents can access throughout the day.

A REMINDER ABOUT THE RESILIENCY WORKSHOP THIS FRIDAY!

With the deployment fast approaching, we know that many of our Married Soldiers and Spouses, and even Our 'Single Soldiers' who are in committed relationships, might be feeling the tension in their relationships. The Army lifestyle is stressful at the best of times, but it is especially challenging during pre-deployment, deployment and reintegration. It's easy to find yourself feeling irritable, flustered, and snappy. Or perhaps you or your Spouse is feeling more withdrawn and you guys having trouble communicating your needs and concerns?

Join us to strengthen your communication skills and build a stronger, more resilient relationship!

When: March 4th
Where:Main Post Chapel
Time: Part One 1000-1130 and Part Two 1300-1345 (10am-11:30am and 1-1:45pm)

We will be offering a Resiliency Workshop with ACS Fort Drum Mobilization and Deployment We highly encourage you to attend together. Soldiers will be given time to pick up their partners to attend. The workshop will be held in two parts, with a break for lunch. We've done our best to accommodate morning buses and dismissal times. If you want to come and still have an issue, please let me know.

This is a great opportunity to learn some skills and techniques that will strengthen your bond and your relationship during not just the deployment, but every day!

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us at [email protected]
We hope to see you there!

Please stay safe and warm this weekend! With all of the severe weather slated for this weekend, please remember to be mindful of the temperature and especially wind chill warnings and exposure to the cold. Dress appropriately, and be extra careful if you're out on the road. It's a good idea to keep an emergency kit in your vehicle, just in case. And remember to give yourself extra stopping distance when driving.

Hello Warrior Spouses!

We are contemplating have an informal get together for Coffee next week, either on the 10th or the 11th, and would like some feedback!

What time of day would be most convenient for you? Morning, Afternoon, or Evening. We won't be able to accommodate everyone, but we'd like to try and make it open to as many people as possible (children will be welcome).

It will be a relaxed get together before block leave, that gives everyone a chance to touch base and ask any questions, or voice any concerns they have about the upcoming deployment (or anything else).

An important update for TRICARE families who need to be seen for emergency/after hours care, please read the following policy update to avoid billing issues:

Starting today, January 11, Patients who call the TRICARE Nurse Advice line and receive an authorization to an Urgent Care Center must call the Guthrie Ambulatory Healthcare Clinic (GAHC) at (315) 772-2778 the next business day and receive their back-dated referral. Patients who fail to call the clinic may end up being billed because GAHC is unaware of the visit to the Urgent Care Center. Please tell the Call Center Agent the Patients' Name, the Urgent Care Clinic that was visited, the date and the diagnosis. If needed, the Call Center Agent will also be able to book a follow-up appointment with the Patient's Care Team.
As always, patients can send a secure message using www.relayhealth.com instead of calling the Guthrie Call Center.

The snow missed it's mark here at Fort Drum today so we didn't have to put any of our inclement weather procedures in place. (Sorry Tug Hill!) But that may not always be the case. This article from a Nov. issue of the Mountaineer is a good refresher for anyone wanting to know what happens during a two-hour delay, if a post closure means the gates are closed (spoiler: it doesn't) and where they can look for updates, aside from here of course!

01/12/2016

IMPORTANT UPDATE for Families from Illinois, Minnesota, Missouri, New Mexico and Washington regarding gate policies and ID Checks:

Changes at the Gate: As of Jan. 10, residents of Illinois, Minnesota, Missouri, New Mexico and Washington can no longer use their driver's license to enter Fort Drum. The Department of Homeland Security has identified these five states as being non-compliant with the standards of the REAL ID Act, and driver's license and identification cards issued by those states cannot be used to access federal facilities, such as military installations.

Unless an individual has an authorized government-issued ID card, another valid proof of identity document must be presented to obtain a temporary installation pass. These include a U.S. passport, permanent resident card / alien registration receipt card, employment authorization document with photo or school identification card with photo.

If a visitor requesting access does not have REAL ID Act compliant form of identification and cannot provide supplemental identity proofing documents, they must be escorted at all times while on the installation. It is still Fort Drum policy for all non-DOD ID card holders to have an authorized sponsor to enter post. Sponsors can coordinate the arrival of visitors by applying for a pass through the Access Control Office. Instructions are available at http://www.drum.army.mil/EmergencyServices/Pages/passid.aspx.

The REAL ID Act, passed by Congress in 2005, established tougher requirements as recommended by the 9/11 Commission for proof of legal U.S. residency that would allow driver's license to be recognized for federal purposes. Twenty-three other states are currently pursuing compliancy for their programs under an extended deadline - with California, New Jersey and South Carolina among the list. For current information concerning state-by-state compliance with the Real ID Act, visit https://www.dhs.gov.

Hi all. There are still quite a bit of toys in the Yellow Ribbon Room from a donation we received just as block leave kicked off. If you have a child with a birthday coming up, want a small Valentine's gift for your child or something to stash away for Easter (if you celebrate), you are welcome to stop by the Falcon Family Readiness Center to pick something up. Tomorrow we will be closed likely until after lunch due to meetings, but Thursday and Friday there will be people there so the building will be unlocked.
