At 2214 hours on 1/29, the Fort Edward Fire Department was dispatched to the area of route 4 south of the northern route 46 intersection for a working structure fire, along with South Glens Falls Fire Company Inc., and Fort Edward Rescue Squad. Car 27 responded and found a well involved 1 1/2 story residential structure fire, down over the embankment.

Rescue Tanker 271, Tower 274 and Engine Rescue 273 all responded with manpower. Upon arrival crews began an aggressive interior attack while conditions permitted. Due to the fire having a large head start on first arriving companies, command made the decision to switch from offensive to defensive tactics.

Below freezing temperatures, along with the location of the residence restricted operations and capabilities of units on scene. The Fort Edward Fire Department remained on scene well past 0200 hrs this morning.

Yesterday morning, the Fort Edward Fire Department was requested by the Kingsbury Volunteer Hose Company for a detail at Lock 9. The request was for Tower 274 and Brush 276 for an animal rescue.

Tower 274 and Brush 276, in conjunction with KVHC and DEC, rescued a deer that had been stuck on the ice in Lock 9. Tower 274 was used as a high point for hoisting, and Brush 276 was used for rope and ice rescue equipment.

After approximately 2 hours, the deer was safely lifted from the lock and taken by DEC to be safely relocated.
