Step into the past with us next Saturday, September 12, for the 50th Anniversary Fort Fairfield Blockhouse Rededication Ceremony! 🇺🇸🇨🇦

Join the Frontier Heritage Historical Society at the Blockhouse Museum on Main Street from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM for a day of free, family-friendly living history celebrating 50 years since the blockhouse was reconstructed for the nation’s Bicentennial.

Here’s what’s happening throughout the day:

Living History & Tours: Explore the Blockhouse Museum and experience an active militia encampment reenactment.

Traditional Trades: Watch live blacksmithing at the forge, see wool spinners in action (products available to buy!), and bring your antique clocks or watches to get appraised by timepiece repairers.

Local History: Continuous presentations on the "Bloodless Aroostook War," vintage lumbering artifacts, and photos of the 1976 reconstruction.

Food Trucks: Grab a bite from on-site local vendors, Nacho Mama's, Cheryl's Weiner Wagon, and The Funnel Cake Shack

Official Rededication Ceremony at 12:00 PM:

Events will pause at noon for remarks from American and Canadian officials, VFW color guards, and the presentation of an official sentiment from the Maine Legislature.

When: Saturday, September 12, 2026 | 10 AM – 4 PM

Where: Fort Fairfield Blockhouse Museum, Main Street

If you plan to attend the Maine Potato Blossom Festival Potato Ball TONIGHT (July 11) PLEASE KNOW that there are only a very few tickets left - arrive early to get yours! The event begins at 8:00pm with Live Music from Buck Dynasty, light appetizers, cash/card bar, and dancing. This event is a fundraiser for the Frontier Heritage Historical Society as they work to restore the Blockhouse in town.

Come out to the VFW tomorrow night for a great time and a great cause!

As the sun sets on the first day of the Maine Potato Blossom Festival, we invite you to join us for the 2nd Annual Potato Ball on Saturday, July 11, from 8:00 PM–11:00 PM at the Fort Fairfield VFW.

This year's theme, Country Chic, blends rustic charm with timeless elegance. Think fancy country wedding: flowing summer dresses, polished denim, linen shirts, boots or heels—whatever makes you feel your best.

Enjoy an evening of music with Buck Dynasty, dancing, delicious food (appetizers, this is NOT a full meal!), and great company while coming together to raise funds to support Fort Fairfield's rich history.

$10 per person, all proceeds will go to the Restoration of the Fort Fairfield Blockhouse.

This year the Fort Fairfield Blockhouse will be marking it's 50th anniversary. It has stood for decades as a symbol of our town's history and identity. After 50 years of Maine weather, important exterior repairs are now needed to preserve this Blockhouse for future generations. Frontier Heritage Historical Society has started fundraising for this major project, with a goal of $25,000. We are asking for the community's help in supporting this effort. Donations can be sent to Frontier Heritage, P.O. Box 62, Fort Fairfield, ME 04742. Thank you for your generosity.

To help the Frontier Heritage Historical Society reach their goal, ALL proceeds of the Maine Potato Blossom Festival Potato Ball are going to the Blockhouse project. Come enjoy an elegant evening of hors d'oeuvres, dancing, live music by Buck Dynasty, and Aroostook County Potato Charm.

The Blockhouse will also be open during the festival Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (17, 18, 19) from 10am-2pm.

We found a few pictures from what appears to be the 1974 walkathon that helped raise funds to rebuild the Blockhouse - and it looks like at least half the high school took part!

A lot of the faces aren’t labeled, so we’re hoping the community can help.
