Today we are looking all the way back to 1963! This is a copy of The News Record from Thursday, May 30th, 1963. This newspaper covered events happening in and around Clay County, Georgia during this time. It included a Governor’s Proclamation providing the details of Georgia’s Vacation planning week and a picture of Clay County’s high school seniors. If you would like to request a year be shown here, please be sure to leave a comment with the year you’d like to view. We have newspaper records going back all the way to 1889 in the Clay County Archives and would love to hear from you. Thank you for all you do Clay County and we hope you enjoy this week’s contribution. We wish you a safe and happy weekend!

As we look ahead, all branches of the Kinchafoonee Regional Library System will be closed next week in observance of Memorial Day as we honor and remember those who gave their lives in service to our country.

Even while our buildings are closed, your library is always within reach. Enjoy 24/7 access to eBooks, audiobooks, and more through Libby, Palace Project, and Blackstone Unlimited.

Libraries support literacy, access to information, and lifelong learning—essential pillars of an informed and engaged democracy. This Memorial Day, we reflect on both the sacrifices made for our freedoms and the importance of preserving them through knowledge.

Regular hours will resume the following day. We wish you a safe and meaningful holiday.
