Students from the Willcox Center of Art and Heritage STEAM program visited the U.S. Army Network Enterprise Technology Command headquarters at Fort Huachuca this week to learn how the command supports National Security and to explore careers in technology and cyber defense.

The group toured network operations areas and received briefings on how NETCOM delivers resilient, secure networks, global enterprise services and cyber defense capabilities that enable commanders and civilian leaders to act with timely, accurate information. NETCOM Deputy to the Commanding General, BG Anne-Marie R. Wiersgalla, spoke to the students about the command’s role and the importance of engaging with local communities to develop future talent and build community trust.

The visit is part of wider outreach efforts by NETCOM and Fort Huachuca to build relationships with future leaders in nearby communities. Local partnerships aim to raise awareness of technical career paths and to create pipelines for talent into military, government and private sector cyber roles.

Leaders from the University of Arizona’s Kyl Institute for National Security visited the U.S. Army Network Enterprise Technology Command Headquarters to examine how NETCOM underpins National Security and empowers decision makers worldwide. The delegation included retired Gen. Ronin Rand and retired Gen. Thomas E. Kunkel of the university.

NETCOM officials outlined how the command delivers resilient, secure networks, global enterprise services, and cyber defense capabilities that enable commanders and civilian leaders to act with timely, accurate information. The visit highlighted NETCOM’s role in connecting tactical units to strategic decision nodes, protecting communications in contested environments, and sustaining mission assurance for joint forces and partners.

NETCOM Chief of Staff Col. Heather McAteer led a briefing on the command’s operations, emphasizing the integration of network operations, spectrum management, and defensive cyber effects to preserve information superiority. Attendees reviewed how NETCOM’s global network management supports real-time command and control, logistics coordination, and intelligence sharing, reducing decision latency for warfighters and policymakers.

The Kyl Institute, an applied research hub and independent nonprofit, seeks to translate academic breakthroughs into operational solutions for defense, intelligence, and civilian agencies. The U.S. Army Network Enterprise Technology Command held a change of command for its Headquarters and Headquarters Company in Greely Hall Thursday, highlighting the command’s emphasis on readiness and its role in enabling decision makers and warfighters worldwide.

Col. Heather McAteer, NETCOM chief of staff, hosted the ceremony that transferred authority from Capt. Robert F. Floeter to Capt. Ara L. Gahan. NETCOM Commanding General Maj. Gen. Jacqueline Denise McPhail attended and delivered remarks stressing continuity, institutional discipline and the headquarters’ mission to support global operations.

Floeter was recognized for strengthening headquarters readiness through rigorous training, administrative ex*****on and stewardship of Greely Hall. His combat and instructional experience contributed to improved daily life and professional development for Soldiers assigned to the headquarters. Gahan was welcomed based on signal expertise, operational tours in Korea and Europe, and continuing professional education that position her to oversee training, administration and mission-essential functions for HHC.

The event underscored HHC’s role as a force multiplier that sustains NETCOM’s ability to deliver timely and reliable network and cyber capabilities so commanders and warfighters can make informed decisions across theaters. The U.S. Army Network Enterprise Technology Command’s Headquarters and Headquarters Company held a “Summer Slam” at the Irwin Pool that organizers said aimed to strengthen resiliency, unit cohesion and camaraderie while empowering readiness across the command.

The family-friendly event featured dunk tanks, a pie-in-the-face station and other poolside activities open to Soldiers, Department of the Army civilians and family members, HHC officials said. A free lunch was provided by the company, and small fundraising efforts sought to support future morale and unit events.

During the event, awards were presented to Sgt. Maj. Ben Kirby, Sgt. Maj. Jose Morales, Sgt. 1st Class Marielis Robles-Molina and Spc. Tanner Siverhus for their planning and ex*****on of the Best Squad Competition in Indiantown Gap, Pennsylvania. Capt. Robert F. Floeter, HHC commander, received gifts from NETCOM Commanding General Jacqueline “Denise” McPhail and Command Sgt. Maj. Michael J. Runk ahead of his departure in recognition of his service.

Organizers said the informal atmosphere encouraged cross-rank interaction, networking and mentorship — elements they called essential to sustaining operational effectiveness. As a highlight, members of both the HHC and NETCOM command staffs took turns in the dunk tank and received pies in the face to raise additional funds for similar events.

“Our intent was to give people a chance to relax together, rebuild social bonds and sharpen the team spirit that underpins readiness,” HHC Commander Capt. Robert F. Floeter said. Leaders noted that resiliency and connected, cohesive teams were an investment in force readiness and better prepared to meet mission demands.

The United States Army Network Enterprise Technology Command held a retirement ceremony in the Greely Hall auditorium to honor Mr. Charles W. Godwin Jr. and Lieutenant Colonel Brian Lenzmeier after decades of distinguished service to military intelligence and cyberspace operations.

Godwin concluded a 32 year career that began as an Armor Battalion S2 in Mannheim, Germany and progressed through a series of intelligence and counterintelligence assignments across Europe, the Balkans and the United States. After transitioning from active duty he continued to serve as a Department of Defense Intelligence Personnel System civilian, standing watch during the immediate post 9/11 period and later serving as NETCOM Deputy G2. During his last decade he led efforts to transform NETCOM intelligence capacity into an actionable cyberthreat analysis capability and helped expand five Regional Cyber Centers, adding personnel and enduring capability that will support network defense for years.

Lenzmeier retired after a career that began in the Army Reserve as an intelligence analyst and included commissioning as an armor officer. His service included leadership and advisory roles in South Korea and Iraq, company command and staff positions at the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment, instructor duties at MIBOLC, international student affairs at Fort Huachuca, and an academic post at Arizona State University. Most recently he served as the ACE Chief at NETCOM with a focus on intelligence support to cyberspace operations.

Both men were recognized for mentorship, technical expertise and institutional impact. Family members attended the ceremony including Lenzmeier’s wife Dr. Shannon Lenzmeier and their children and a mother in law. Colleagues said the pair will be missed for their leadership and steady contributions to the Military Intelligence Corps and NETCOM mission.

Major General Jacqueline D. McPhail, commanding general of the U.S. Army Network Enterprise Technology Command (NETCOM), delivered the keynote address at the Arizona Department of Veterans’ Services Memorial Day observance Monday at the Southern Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

In a Change of Leadership ceremony at NETCOM headquarters’ Greely Hall auditorium Friday, Lieutenant Colonel Samer Elakkad passed leadership of the Global Cyber Center Operations Division to Lieutenant Colonel Lucas Brown, marking a transfer aimed at sustaining and expanding the Army’s cyber posture.

Commanding General Jacqueline “Denise” McPhail and Command Sergeant Major Michael Runk attended the ceremony, which recognized Elakkad’s tenure for consolidating disparate theater operations into the Army’s first unified Global Cyber Center and for maintaining continuous network operations across a vast user base.

“Elakkad didn’t just run a division; he evolved it,” McPhail said, highlighting the integration of five separate theater operations into a single, automated global picture for commanders. Under his leadership, officials said, the center provided 24/7 Defense Wide Information Network (DOWIN) support for more than 800,000 Total Force users and served as a steady command element during major surges.

Officials praised Elakkad for translating complex cyber threats into clear, strategic guidance for senior leaders and for ensuring mission command remained intact during crises.

Brown, who assumes duties as operations lead, was charged with continuing the center’s globalization and resilience efforts. “The torch is yours to carry forward,” McPhail said, urging Brown to preserve the center’s role as a force-multiplier for NETCOM, the Army and National Security.

The ceremony underscored the increasingly central role of cyber operations in military readiness, with leaders emphasizing continuity, resilience and the quiet, persistent work that undergirds command decisions across the force.

NETCOM Headquarters and Headquarters Company opened a new fitness facility Friday in Greely Hall that leaders say will bolster readiness for active-duty service members and Department of War Civilians.

The “Renegade” gym, spearheaded by HHC commander Capt. Floeter and 1st Sgt. Chavez, features strength and cardio equipment, functional training space and secure areas for mission-focused conditioning. Officials said the facility will provide convenient access to physical training.

“Improved physical readiness supports operational effectiveness across the command,” Capt. Floeter said in a release. “This gym gives our warfighters and civilian workforce the tools to stay fit and resilient.”

Command leaders stressed the gym’s role in sustaining Army standards, injury prevention and morale, calling it an investment in personnel who support NETCOM’s communications and cyber missions.

Access is limited to active-duty service members and Department of War Civilians assigned to NETCOM HHC.
